NFL betting tips: Seattle Seahawks v San Francisco 49ers preview and picks

Thursday’s primetime Week 6 game sees two NFC West teams do battle as the San Francisco 49ers head to Lumen Field to take on the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle sit at the top of the pile in the section with a 3-2 record, but successive defeats mean the pressure is on ahead of their first divisional clash of the campaign.

The 49ers’ injury problems have continued to plague them, and they are 2-3 leading up to their trip north to Washington state.

Mason to expose Seattle’s ground weaknesses

The Seattle Seahawks have done enough to move to the top of the NFC West, but their position could be a false dawn.

Mike Macdonald’s team started the season with three successive wins but those victories over the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins were helped by poor quarterback play from the opposition.

Seattle were brought back down to earth in Week 4 when they lost 42-29 to the Detroit Lions, and further questions are being asked after they were beaten 29-20 to the New York Giants last week.

The Giants were without some of their best offensive weapons, yet they still battered the Seahawks on the ground.

Brian Daboll’s team rushed for 175 yards, meaning the Seahawks have allowed more than 100 rushing yards in three of their five games.

San Francisco running back Mason has already run for 536 yards in five games, averaging 5.1 yards per carry, so he has what it takes to punish Macdonald’s team on home soil.

Seattle have to go back to basics

Seattle’s hold on the NFC West is waining ahead of Thursday’s game and the recent signs suggest they may be going backwards.

All of their wins at the start of the campaign came against mediocre back-up or rookie quarterbacks, but that will not be the case this week with Brock Purdy in town.

While the 49ers have struggled for consistency, the Seahawks have not played to their key personnel’s strengths.

In Week 4 running back Kenneth Walker III returned from an oblique injury and scored three touchdowns, yet last weekend he was given only five carries.

Seattle tried a pass-heavy attack to beat the Giants and it failed, but if they go back to the drawing board they will get Walker III involved.

The 23-year-old has played in only three games this season, but he has secured a total of 202 rushing yards from 37 carries and should be able to have his say with his line looking on the low side this week.
