Michael Vick may be back on a sideline once again.
Albeit not in a place that most expected.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X that the former Pro-Bowl quarterback is in talks to become a college football head coach.
“Sacramento State is in discussions to hire former Pro-Bowl QB Mike Vick as its new head coach, per sources,” Schefter said.
“Sacramento State plans to move up to FBS, is building a new stadium and has over $50 million in NIL.
“Sacramento State would build an experienced coaching staff around Vick that is inline with the new frontier of college football.”
Schefter also noted that Vick has spoken with Norfolk State officials about that job as well.
Vick thrust himself into the national spotlight during his time at Virginia Tech, where he dazzled with both his arm and legs for the Hokies.
He was taken with the first overall pick in the 2001 draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
Vick revolutionized the quarterback position because of his rushing ability and athleticism.
He was Lamar Jackson before Lamar Jackson.
He was Cam Newton before Cam Newton.
Vick had all the talent in the world to become the next big thing.
His legal troubles early in his career have been well documented, which ultimately derailed his path in reaching his full potential.
Fortunately Vick has since rehabbed his image and been a model citizen in not only his own life, but in other people’s lives as well.
And it sounds like he wants to continue doing so at the college level, where he will be able to positively impact the lives of young men on a daily basis.
This wouldn’t be the first time an NFL legend decided to go the college route and lead a program on that level.
See Deion Sanders.
Hell, it wouldn’t even be the first time in the last week that an NFL legend decided to go the college route.
See Bill Belichick.
More and more players and coaches who made a name for themselves in the National Football League are turning to the college ranks.
College football has never been more similar to the NFL in terms of how everything is constructed, because of NIL, the transfer portal, etc.
Now Vick reportedly wants to give it a go for himself.
