Both teams head into this weekend’s third and final match of this season’s NFL London Games looking to recover from their slow starts to the season.

Both the Jaguars and Patriots have made 1-5 starts to the 2024 season, leaving them needing to string a long run of wins together to give themselves any chance of making the play-offs this season, and the earlier than win streak starts the better.

Both teams will see this weekend as a huge opportunity to get a vital second win on the board against another struggling side, which would give both teams a much needed confidence boost heading into the remainder of the season.

The Jaguars lost their opening four matches of the season before finally recording their first win against the Indianapolis Colts a fortnight ago, but couldn’t build on their opening win as they lost to the Chicago Bears at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has led his side back-to-back 9-8 seasons after being selected first overall in the 2021 draft, winning the AFC South in 2022 before losing to eventual Super Bowl champions Kansas City in the Divisional play-off round.

Last season, though, the same record wasn’t even enough to reach the Wildcard round of the play-offs, and Lawrence and co will have to go 7-2 for the rest of the season just to match that record.

The Patriots meanwhile, shocked the league on the opening weekend of the season with victory away at the Cincinnati Bengals in the franchise’s first game this century without legendary head coach Bill Belichick in charge, with Jerod Mayo the new man in charge.

The Massachusetts side haven’t won since though and head into Sunday’s London game on a five match losing streak, though their is slight optimism in camp with this year’s third overall draft pick, Drake Maye, set to make his second NFL start this weekend at Wembley.

Jacksonville head into Sunday’s fixture as favourites for victory with New England very much still at the beginning of their transitional phase following the departure of Belichick in the summer, and fielding a rookie quarterback in just his second start, compared to Lawrence who has three of years of experience under his belt now.
