Nottingham Forest v West Ham predictions
Nottingham Forest head into this weekend’s clash with West Ham as favourites for victory after enjoying a spectacular and widely unexpected start to the new Premier League season, which has them sitting just two points off the top three heading into the weekend.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been beaten only once in their nine league matches this season, and their 3-1 away win in the East Midlands derby against Leicester last weekend saw them break into the top seven in the league table.
The club had been tipped by many to be in a relegation battle this season, having finished just one place above the drop zone last season, but Nuno has been able to stamp his identity on the team over the summer break and the club appear in strong position.
However one area Forest will be looking to improve on is their record at their home ground, having won only one of their four league games at the City Ground this season, and will see Saturday’s game as a great opportunity to add to that tally.
West Ham make the trip to Nottinghamshire on Saturday afternoon on the back of a massive win over Manchester United last weekend, which ended a run of just one victory in eight matches whilst relieving a lot of pressure that was on new manager Julen Lopetegui.
The victory at the London Stadium last weekend has lifted the Hammers up to 13th place in the league ahead of the new weekend, and are now just a couple of points off the top eight in a very tightly congested Premier League table.
The east London side have now won two of their last three matches ahead of Saturday’s match but are without a win in their last four matches away from home, including heavy 5-1 and 4-1 defeats against Liverpool and Tottenham respectively.
The Irons will be looking for their first win on the road since August as they bid to climb back into the top half and competing for European places, where they believe they belong.
Saturday’s match will be a tightly contested affair with a win meaning so much to both sides, and eight of the last nine matches between the two teams, including each of the last six, have been won by the home side, and this weekend’s tie may well follow suit.
Lopetegui is winless in his two previous matches managing against Forest, who boast the second best defence in the league this season, and with Chris Wood in very strong form at the top of the pitch, I envision a 2-0 home victory on Saturday.
Nottingham Forest v West Ham betting tips
Only Erling Haaland and Bryan Mbeumo have scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Chris Wood, who is in strong form heading into the weekend having bagged a brace in last weekend’s East Midlands derby victory, taking his tally to four in his last three games.
Nottingham Forest have conceded only seven goals in nine games in the Premier League this season, with only Liverpool having conceded fewer, conceding just three goals in four home games this season, while only 38% of West Ham’s goals so far have come on the road.
