Both players have had to contend with a lengthy delay in Florida caused by heavy rain at the Hard Rock Stadium.

The final of the women’s doubles also has to be completed once play resumes before the men’s singles final could take place.

Ahead of the match, Djokovic was filmed on court going through his practice routine.

However, the cameras quickly picked up on swelling around his right eye, with a red mark also visible on his cheek.

Coverage of his session also showed him using eye drops to treat the issue during a break in play.

Djokovic has previously battled through eye issues in his career, most recently in 2022.

During a clash with Daniil Medvedev at the ATP Tour Finals, he requested eye drops before having to run off court to fix his contact lenses.

Meanwhile, a similar incident occurred at the 2020 Australian Open, with the 24-time Grand Slam champion claiming he couldn’t see as a result of a problem with his contacts.

It is unknown how the 37-year-old suffered the injury, having not displayed the swelling during his semi-final win.

Djokovic booked his place in the final on Friday with a straight sets victory over Grigor Dimitrov.

The win came after he had already seen off Rinky Hijikata, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Lorenzo Musetti and Sebastian Korda in his pursuit of a landmark title.

Beating Mensik would secure Djokovic’s 100th ATP title of his career.

It would also be his first win since last summer’s Olympics in Paris, whilst his last ATP title came at the 2023 Tour Finals.

Djokovic is already a six-time winner in Miami, most recently in 2016, with three of his final victories coming against now coach Andy Murray.

However, this year’s tournament is his first appearance in the event since 2019.

The landmark victory was on his mind after beating Dimitrov, with Djokovic explaining: “Ever since I won my 99th [title], which was the Olympic Games in Paris, I’ve been playing with the prospect of winning the special 100 titles.

“I’ve been trying to find that necessary and much-needed level of tennis that will put me in a position to fight for a trophy, a big trophy.

“That’s what I’ve been doing this week, to be honest. I’ve been very happy with the way I prepared for the tournament, the way I’ve been playing. I haven’t dropped a set.

“It’s a great opportunity. Let’s see what happens in two days.”

A 100th title on Sunday would come 19 years after his first triumph in an ATP event.

Then aged 19, he beat Nicolas Massu to claim the 2006 Dutch Open in Amersfoort.
