The opening day for the 2025 Rwanda Golf Open was on Wednesday, 12th February with round one at the par-72 Kigali Golf resort and villas.
After the first 18 holes, it is a shot lead for Rwanda’s Celestin Nsanzuwera who scored 6-under-66 on the day.
Nsanzuwera’s score card read 7 birdies on holes 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 10 with 10 pars (on holes 5, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18) and one bogie on par 4 hole 4.
He takes a single shot advantage over Zimbabwe’s Promise Sembreiro (67).
Another Zimbabwe player, Visitor Mapwanya scored 1-under-70 and lies in third place ahead of round tee off on Thurday.


Legendary Kenyan professional Dismas Indiza is one under-71 and within catching distance of the top three.
The trio of Clive Ngaru (Zimbabwe), Ronald Rugumayo (Uganda) and Greg Snow (Kenya) are all level par and six shots shy from the overnight leader.
Rugumayo had four birdies and bogies apiece with 10 par scores from round one.


Other Ugandans within the cut range are Abraham Ainamani and Tadeo Gaita Rodell (both 1-over-73); whilst the trio of Ronald Otile, Vincent Byamukama and Grace Kasango (76 apiece) need to get sharper in the decisive second round in a bid to make the treasured cut for the 50,000 USD prize money.
David Kamulindwa (77), Davis Kato (79), Canary Kabise (80), Phillip Kasozi (81) and Henry Lujja (85) were the scores for the other Ugandan professionals after round one.
Gross cluster:
In the gross category, Michael Karanga (Kenya) leads the field with 1-under-71, taking a shot lead over Rwanda’s Alain Niyonkuru.


Joseph Cwinya-ai was top performing Ugandan gross player with 3-over-74, the same score as Rwanda’s Samuel Muragijimana.
Day two for the gross players as well is on Thursday, 14th February 2025.
