In two years to come, 17-year-old Nyongore Chloe Innocent was one of the expected Lacrosse players on the Uganda national female team to represent the country in Korea come 2026.

Silently, Nyongore who has been a senior four student had aggressively embarked on learning the Korean language by her own self.

Sadly, her dream perished instantly as the former attacking player is no more.

The Lacrosse team captain for Mount St Mary’s College Namagunga died of severe malaria after passing on Thursday, 19th September 2024.

She was laid to rest in Rwentuha village, Bushenyi District in Western Uganda on Sunday, 22nd September 2024.

According to her family, Nyongore fell sick instantly and after a few hours, she breathed her last.

“I was so humbled to work with this little girl man. She was so hard working and we did a lot together at school. She was my Team captain. She fell sick, quick and went” Isaac Kirinya, a Lacrosse coach eulogized.

In 2022 as she was in S2, Nyongore fully received the Mt. St Mary’s College Namagunga Lacrosse Programme.

Two years later, she skippered the school team to a respectable fifth place finish during the 2024 USSSA Non-Feassa games hosted in Soroti city.

Nyongore was summoned on the Uganda national team preparing for the world games in Korea in 2026.

“I have lost a very critical figure for the programme and Lacrosse in General. She was team oriented, hardworking, brilliant, focused and above all, an inspirational figure to all of us. We lost a very huge resource for the country” Kirinya added.

It’s with our heavy hearts that we bid farewell to our child, student and sportsman in the field of Lacrose, and the sports fraternity at large in the country, as the Uganda Secondary Schools’ Sports Association, we deeply condole with friends and family in these difficult times. Eternal rest grant unto her, oh Lord and let your perpetual light shine up on her. May her soul rest in peace.
