Mbarara City 1-3 Vipers SC
Allan Okello netted a brace of penalties while Yunus Sentamu added the other as Vipers beat Mbarara City 3-1 at Kakyeka to move top of the Premier League.
The win over the Ankole Lions also ended the hosts’ home run without defeat since their loss to NEC on match day one of last season.
Okello converted his first penalty in additional time of the first half sending goalie Abdul Kimera the wrong way and was at it again seven minutes after recess sending his effort in the same position.
Latif Ssenkubuge gave the hosts hope of a come back in the 56th minute with a well-timed header but Sentamu sealed victory in the 70th minute.
Okello’s brace means he has now scored in three consecutive matches taking him joint top on the top scorers’ log with five goals.
Vipers who face title rivals KCCA next on November 9 at Kitende are now on 16 points, one and two ahead of NEC and Kasasiro Boys who have played one game fewer.
Mbarara City dropped to 5th place courtesy of an inferior goal difference despite having same points, 9 as now 4th placed UPDF.
Action in the Premier League continues on Wednesday with NEC visiting Lugazi while Police return home against Mbale Heroes.
