Osasuna vs Real Madrid predictions

Just two points now separate the top three in La Liga. Real Madrid still sit top of the pile. But after dropping five points in their last two matches, they have seen their lead dramatically cut.

On Saturday Los Blancos will face Osasuna on Matchday 24 of La Liga. Osasuna will start the match week ninth in the table with 31 points from 24 matches. Los Rojillos have won seven, drawn ten and lost six in the league this season.

That record doesn’t sound bad. But when Vicente Moreno’s team defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 on Matchday 22, it was their first La Liga win since they beat Valladolid 1-0 on Matchday 12.

The nine match winless run tested the patience of the loyal Osasuna fans. And that patience was again tested when Moreno’s team followed it up with a 2-0 away defeat to Sociedad in the quarter-final of the Copa del Rey just four days later.

A 1-1 draw with Mallorca on Monday followed. The point means that Los Rojillos are now unbeaten in their last four in La Liga, winning one and drawing three.

That unbeaten run will be put to the test on Saturday.

Real Madrid have picked up just one point from their last two La Liga matches.

Last Saturday’s 1-1 Madrid derby stalemate with Atletico can be excused, it could prove to be an excellent point by the end of the season.

It was the 1-0 defeat Los Blancos suffered against Espanyol in their previous match that did the damage. Carlos Romero scored the only goal of a match that Real dominated with 21 attempts on goal to the host’s five.

No one saw that defeat coming against the relegation strugglers. And it only served to galvanise Real’s championship rivals, Atletico and Barcelona, who both cashed in with wins on the same match week.

Real have gone some way to banishing the loss in Catalonia. Following the draw with Atletico, Los Blancos took a giant step towards the Round of 16 in the Champions League by defeating Manchester City 3-2 at the Etihad on Tuesday.

The win puts the current European champions in pole position for the return leg at the Bernabeu in four days time.

But Carlo Ancelotti’s team needs to focus on La Liga for now. They can’t afford to drop any more points this weekend.

Osasuna have scored in eight of their last ten La Liga matches. Los Rojillos have also scored 21 goals in 12 home matches this season; they haven’t failed to find the back of the net at El Sadar.

Real Madrid needs the win and there is a good chance they will concede a goal in getting it.

⚽ Back Real Madrid to win and both teams to score at 2/1 with Sky Bet ⚽

Vinicius Junior to score or assist

Vinicius Junior has unbelievable stats for Real Madrid this season. We are guilty of only seeing him as a goalscorer. But the Brazilian is equally as adept at creating goals for others.

Vinicius Jr has scored eight goals in 17 La Liga matches and provided seven assists. In the Champions League he has seven goals and three assists in seven matches.

The Brazilian didn’t score or assist in the two La Liga matches he has played since his suspension. But he was back on song in Manchester on Wednesday, where he registered two assists in his team’s 3-2 win over City.

Kylian Mbappe is 8/13 to score or assist with Paddy Power. Vinicius Jr. is nearly even money. It’s obvious who is the better value bet.

Brahim Diaz to score anytime

Call this one a hunch bet, but with the second leg of the Champions League playoffs against Manchester City coming in just four days, Carlo Ancelotti may well give some of his back up players more minutes, or maybe even a rare start.

Brahim Diaz is one such player who could benefit. Diaz has featured in Madrid’s last 13 matches since returning from injury, but mainly from the bench.

In the matches against Sevilla on Matchday 18 he played 90 minutes and scored. He also scored against Las Palmas on Matchday 20 in the 76 minutes he was on the field.

Diaz doesn’t get many minutes. But when he does he makes them count.

He can play anywhere across the front line and he may well be rewarded with a start on Saturday after his 86th minute equaliser against City was the catalyst for Madrid’s remarkable late Champions League comeback.
