Otukei, Ssekibejja set early pace at 2025 Kabalaza Golf Open in Entebbe | Round 1

2025 Kabalaza Golf Open (Round 1):

  • Leader: Anthony Otukei – 68
  • Runners-up: Andrew Ssekibejja – 71

Anthony Otukei commanded the lead during the opening round of the 2025 Kabalaza Golf open at the par-71 Entebbe club on Wednesday, 29th January.

Otukei, a member at the Lugazi Hills and Country club carded 6 birdies; 2 on the front and the other 4 at the back end of the lake side golfing facility. He had 9 pars and 3 bogies.

On the par 5 hole 1, Otukei opened brilliantly with a birdie. He scratched the second par 3 hole, recorded a par on par-4 hole 3, a bogie on the dog-legged par 4 hole 4, pars on 5 and 6, a second birdie on hole 7, bogie on 8 and winded the first 9 holes with a par.

He then crossed for a far improved final 9 holes with pars on holes 10 and 11, successive birdies on 12 and 13, pars on 14, 15 and 16 before completing the round strongly with a birdie on the troublesome Deo Akope challenge (hole 17) and another one on hole 18.

2022 Uganda Open winner Andrew Ssekibejja completed the opening round in second place with a course level score (71).

Despite a grey patch with a double bogie score on the par-5-540-yards hole one, Ssekibejja swiftly recovered to up his game.

“I am happy for my scores on day one. I will keep the chase and possibly make it in the remaining 36 holes” Ssekibejja, a member at Lake Victoria Serena and Spa remarked.

Another former Uganda Open winner Joseph Cwinya-ai is 4 shots off the leader Otukei whilst Elton Thembo, Ibrahim Ssemakula, Lawrence Walakira and Cosmas Ociti, all scored 2-over 73 apiece.

Juma Abiti (75), Brian Mugisha (75), Ivan Sekulima (75), Titus Okwong (75), Asuman Tumwesigye (76) are all within the chasing distance.

The second round is on Thursday, 30th January 202, alongside the professionals with the climax of the gross cluster and paid rank golfers on the subsequent day.

A number of partners have joined hands to make this event a success as Entebbe club, Uganda Golf Union, Hotel 7, Momo’s Bar, Pinnacle Security, Aquafina, Pepsi, Street Club, Upscale events and Petro.

The Kabalaza open championship shall climax on Saturday, 1st February 2025.
