Uganda is in a comparably easy Pool C for the 2024 edition of the women’s Rugby Africa 7s tournament. Zambia, Senegal, and Cote d’Ivoire are the other three teams the Lady Rugby Cranes will face in the tournament’s pool phase.
This is what all the pools look like:
Pool A: South Africa, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso.
Pool B: Kenya, Madagascar, Ghana, Mauritius.
Pool C: Uganda, Zambia, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire.
The tournament was initially scheduled to be played over two rounds from October 26-27 to November 2-3 in Tunisia but the North African nation pulled out of hosting. Ghana, the home country of the current Rugby Africa president Herbert Mensah, came in to rescue the situation.
It will now be played from November 9-10 in the capital Accra. But it will be only one round.
University of Ghana’s purpose-built rugby stadium in Legon is the venue. This facility hosted Rugby 7s’ inaugural appearance during the 13th African Games in March earlier this year. Ghana, Madagascar, Tunisia, and Uganda participated in this tournament.

At the previous edition of the Africa 7s in Monastir, Tunisia, Uganda finished third behind defending champions South Africa and Kenya. For their preparations this year, they have featured in the Willem Strauss International 7s in Nielstroom and Safari 7s in Machakos where they played against hosts South Africa and Kenya.
The squad announcement is imminent since the team is undergoing intensive training at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
