The Kansas City Chiefs have wasted no time in finding Patrick Mahomes a new blindside protector.

With the NFL‘s legal tampering period opening on Monday, March 10, the Chiefs look set to bring in offensive tackle Jaylon Moore.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, they have agreed a two-year, $30million deal with the former San Francisco 49ers star.

The deal is said to include $21.24m fully guaranteed, and was negotiated by agents Jon Perzley and Brian Mackler of Sportstars.

In bringing Moore to Arrowhead, Kansas City look set to solve a longstanding issue at left tackle.

All-Pro guard Joe Thuney has been traded to the Chicago Bears, after being moved outside last season – making him the lineman most responsible for protecting Mahomes’ blind side.

It was a solution that stabilized Kansas City’s offense, and one that allowed the quarterback to lead his teammates to a third consecutive Super Bowl, where they were blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles.

But finding a new LT was always going to be a priority in the offseason, long before Thuney’s departure.

The Chiefs started a different left tackle in each of their five Super Bowl appearances since 2020, and used Kingsley Suamataia, Wanya Morris and DJ Humphries at the position before moving Thuney there last season.

Now, they have turned to 27-year-old Moore, in the hope he will be a key part of their offensive line for the next few years.

In the past two seasons, he has played 279 pass-blocking snaps and has allowed just two sacks.

Moore, it appears, will also not be arriving alone.

Per FOX Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs are also signing running back Elijah Mitchell to a one-year contract worth up to $3.5m.
