Rinse, cycle, repeat.

During the Philadelphia 76’ers preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks, George hyperextended his left knee in the second quarter, causing him to leave and not return.

The injury happened when George was on defense and stepped back awkwardly while defending the paint, and while he admitted afterward “I’m not too concerned about it,” it is an early scare for fans in Philly.

Unfortunately it isn’t new for George. And it especially isn’t new for 76’ers fans used to seeing star players leave with an injury

Insert Joel Embiid, who missed most of the 2023/24 season with injury and has been making noises that he may not even play in back-to-back games this season.

Just another day that ends in -y for Philadelphia.

The status of how long George will be out is unknown, although Nick Nurse suggested he would be back ‘right away’ so he should be fit to to start the regular season.

The 76’ers tip-off against the Milwaukee Bucks in Philadelphia on October 23rd to begin the season.

George revealed what number he will be wearing in Philly over the summer on his podcastINSTAGRAM @PODCASTPSHOW

George will have some time to rest the knee and hopefully return sooner rather than later.

After all, expectations are through the roof for him and this Sixers squad.

George signed a four-year, $212 million deal with the Sixers over the offseason, to pair him next to Embiid, ending a five-year run with the Los Angeles Clippers,

And now he is in the City of Brotherly Love, rocking the number of his basketball idol, in his hometown.

When asked why he chose number eight, after having only worn numbers 24 and 13 in his career, numbers that are both retired in Philadelphia, George said it was simple.

“C’mon man, I’m in Philly, my idol, the ‘Bean’ Kobe Bryant, my way of idolizing Kobe, and you know, something that meant something outside of 24 and 13,” George said on his podcast, Podcast P with Paul George earlier this year.

“I like the eight, the eight looks good on me.”

Sixers fans will be hoping that George can emulate even just a sliver of Bryant’s success.

For a franchise that hasn’t won a championship since 1983, if George can deliver in the way that his idol did…

He will go down in 76’ers history.
