Peterborough v Rotherham predictions

Peterborough head into this weekend’s fixture as favourites for victory against Rotherham despite suffering a slow start to the new season by their lofty League One standards.

Managed by Darren Ferguson, in his fourth spell in charge of the club, the team currently find themselves down in 14th place in the League One, a division in which they finished fourth last season, their second successive play-off finish, whilst also winning the EFL Trophy earlier in the year.

The Posh head into Saturday afternoon’s clash on the back of consecutive wins over Stevenage though, once in the league and once in the EFL Trophy, so will take confidence into this weekend’s clash.

With only two matches taking place in League One this weekend due to the international break, both teams will see Saturday’s game as a huge opportunity to make large strides up the table in the absence of 20 of the 24 teams not picking up points.

Rotherham make the trip south to Cambridgeshire on Saturday also in confident mood having won each of their last three matches in all competitions and have suffered defeat just once in their last eight games.

Steve Evans goes up against the team he used to manage with his Rotherham side just a point behind the Posh in the table, though are down in 17th place having won just one of their first eight league games of the season following their relegation from the Championship last season.

Both teams know that a win will catapult them high up the standings in what a very congested midtable section, with Peterborough able to climb into the play-offs with a win, while the Millers will move level on points with the top six.

With both teams on winning runs and a lot to play for in terms of league position, and a very even recent head-to-head record with two wins each in their last five meetings, a share of the spoils seems a likely outcome on Saturday afternoon, likely 1-1.

Peterborough v Rotherham betting tips

Kwame Poku heads into the weekend as League One’s joint top goal scorer alongside Mansfield’s Lee Gregory, and with the latter not playing this weekend, Poku will see Saturday’s game as an excellent opportunity not just to help his team climb the table but also move clear in the race for the Golden Boot.

The Peterborough has bagged six goals in the league this season, including four in his last six and one in the win over Stevenage last weekend.

The 1-1 draw seems a sensible bet with both teams underperforming in the league this season and eager to climb up the table, with Saturday’s match seen as the perfect opportunity to do so with only two third tier matches taking place.

Both sides have put small winning streaks together and at least one will have to come to an end on Saturday, with both seeming likely.
