Plymouth v West Brom prediction

West Brom make the trip down to the Devon coast on Saturday lunchtime having got back to winning ways against another south coast side in their last outing, thrashing Portsmouth 5-1 to end their run of one win in their last seven matches.

The match was Tony Mowbray’s second game in charge of the Baggies since taking over a fortnight ago for his second stint in charge of the West Midlands club.

Victory over Pompey last weekend lifted the Baggies up to fifth in the Championship table, still firmly in the running for the play-offs this season despite finding wins difficult to come by of late, and holding a two point lead over the top six’s chasing pack.

The West Midlands side make the trip to the West Country though having won only one of their last 13 matches away from home, which includes going without a win from any of their last eight.

Plymouth head into the weekend propping up the table from bottom spot, four points adrift of 23rd placed Luton and seven points from safety, and will need an upturn in results to start now to give them any chance of Championship survival.

Miron Muslic’s side recovered well from their humiliating 5-0 defeat at home to Burnley last week by holding automatic promotion chasing Sunderland to a 2-2 draw on Wearside last weekend.

The Pilgrims head into this weekend’s clash without a win from any of their last 15 league games, with the Austrian manager having picked up two points from his four matches in charge since taking over from Wayne Rooney three weeks ago.

The Devon side will be needing to turn draws into wins though to stand any chance of avoiding relegation to League One, and that might need to start this weekend against a strong West Brom side to show their intent.

West Brom put in a five star performance against Portsmouth last weekend and will be expecting to beat a bottom of table Plymouth if they’re to be hoping for a play-off spot come the end of the season. I’m going for a 2-0 away win.

Plymouth v West Brom betting tips

No Championship player has set up more goals than West Brom’s Tom Fellows in all competitions this season, the only player to be in double figures in assists for the season.

Fifth placed West Brom will back themselves to take home all three points against a Plymouth side marooned at the bottom of the table seven points from safety and without a win in 15 league games, particularly with Mowbray’s new manager bounce seemingly in order after their 5-1 win last weeekend.
