The Annual Kinyara Golf Open championship at the 9-hole Kinyara Club in Masindi is a signature tournament on the calendar of Uganda Golf Union.

For the 26th year running, this tournament returns with a boom as over 200 golfers will drive off, approach and putt to glory.

As the norm has always been over the years, the official launch was held at the historic Uganda Golf terraces in Kampala on Tuesday, 12th November 2024, barely nine days to the tee-off.

The launch was well graced as the attendance had the top brass officials from Kinyara Sugar Limited led by the chief marketing manager Sekhar Veedhi, public relations officer Francis Mugerwa, Kinyara club captain Moses Enzama, Sarah Siryowe (team leader Liaison Group) and a host of representatives from several insurance companies.

“The Kinyara Golf Open returns for now the 26th edition. This is a signature tournament for Kinyara club and golfers are focused towards attending the tournament. We are focused towards the development of golf in Uganda.” Veedhi remarked.

The club captain Enzama applauded the partners from the Insurance world as Sanlam insurance, ICEA Lion, MUA, UAP Old Mutual Insurance and Gold Star insurance.

Enzama assured the golfing fraternity of a great championship given the good organization and the current immaculate state of the course.

“We are humbled for the support from all the partners as we expect a great competitive tournament. The present state of the golf course is pristine. There are great prizes at stake for all the golfers” Enzama stated.

Amateur golfers in the main gross category will play for 54 holes, since the tournament is now a world amateur golf ranking event with Ug.Shs 4,000,000 at stake for the top five.

Reigning champion Joseph Cwinya-ai is targeting unprecedented fourth title in as many seasons as he faces an established elite competitive field that also has home bred talent Joseph Kasozi, Joseph Reagan Akena, Titus Okwong, Aggrey Mutaka and the like.

The professionals will play for a cash kitty of Ug.Shs 10,000,000 for 36 holes (2 rounds).

The prizes will range from trophies, television sets, refrigerators, cash, to other goodies.

On the par-3 hole 7, there is a special package of one tonne of sugar for the lucky successful golfer with a hole-in-one shot.
