The 2024/25 Premier League season began in August, so the race to finish as the division’s top scorer is already under way.
Erling Haaland has claimed the Golden Boot for two years on the bounce and the Manchester City man is the favourite to do so again this season. But the Norway international will not have everything his own way, as several other attackers eye the prize.

Players competing for the Golden Boot
Here is our summary of the 10 leading contenders to win the Golden Boot in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Erling Haaland — Manchester City (1/5)
Goals last season: 27
Played games: 31
Goals per 90: 0.95
Minutes per goal: 94.5
Total shots: 113
Goal conversion: 0.18
Shot accuracy: 44.2%
The Golden Boot winner in 2022/23 and 2023/24, Erling Haaland is the odds-on favourite to finish on top of the charts once more. That is to be expected. Haaland was probably not at his very best last term and he missed seven of Manchester City’s matches. Yet he still outscored the rest of the division by some distance. Haaland has scored an incredible 260 goals in 315 career appearances.
City have the most productive attack in the division, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Savinho, Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva supplying the ammunition. Haaland is a master inside the penalty area and he will get plenty of chances in 2024/25. In all honesty, it would be a surprise if the Norwegian did not finish as the Premier League’s top scorer for the first time since his arrival.
Bet on Erling Haaland to be the top scorer at 1/5 with Sky Bet
Mohamed Salah — Liverpool (10/1)
Goals last season: 18
Played games: 32
Goals per 90: 0.64
Minutes per goal: 140.8
Total shots: 107
Goal conversion: 0.12

Mohamed Salah’s contract at Liverpool expires next summer, so there is a chance this will be his final campaign in the Premier League. The Egypt international has been remarkably consistent throughout his time at Anfield and he is seen as the likeliest challenger to Erling Haaland’s crown.
Much will depend on how well Liverpool do generally. Jurgen Klopp has departed after nine years at the helm and we do not yet know how the Reds will fare under Arne Slot, his replacement. But Salah has demonstrated time and time again that he guarantees goals. Provided he stays fit for the whole campaign he will be a very big part of the top scorer conversation.
Tip Mohamed Salah as the top goalscorer at 10/1 with Paddy Power
Alexander Isak — Newcastle United (20/1)
Goals last season: 21
Played games: 30
Goals per 90: 0.84
Minutes per goal: 107.4
Total shots: 72
Goal conversion: 0.22
Shot accuracy: 50%
Because of the need to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, some Newcastle United supporters worried that Alexander Isak could be sold this summer. Instead, the Magpies have kept hold of their star striker. Isak was sensational last season, scoring 21 goals in 30 matches, and he could be even more successful in 2024/25.
That is because Newcastle were hamstrung by an injury crisis for much of last term. Isak was not really affected, but the team was weakened without some of its most important players and that may have held the Swede back. Isak is an excellent all-round footballer who can assist as well as score, but putting the ball in the net is his speciality.
Bet on Alexander Isak to be the top scorer at 20/1 with bet365
Ollie Watkins — Aston Villa (28/1)
Goals last season: 19
Played games: 37
Goals per 90: 0.53
Minutes per goal: 169.3
Total shots: 107
Goal conversion: 0.18
Shot accuracy: 43.9%
Without Ollie Watkins, it is hard to see how Aston Villa could have qualified for the Champions League last season. The England forward ended the campaign with a tally of 19 goals, while he also provided 13 assists for his colleagues – a Premier League high. Watkins will be determined to continue in the same vein this season.
Villa’s participation in the Champions League could harm their performance in the Premier League. On an individual level, Watkins is unlikely to make 37 appearances as he did last time out. Writing him off would be a mistake, however: the Villa frontman has what it takes to rival the likes of Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot.
Bet on Ollie Watkins as top goalscorer at 28/1 with Betfred
Dominic Solanke — Tottenham Hotspur (33/1)
Goals last season: 19
Played games: 38
Goals per 90: 0.51
Minutes per goal: 175
Total shots: 106
Goal conversion: 0.16
Shot accuracy: 33%
Dominic Solanke set a new personal record when he scored 19 goals last season. That effort earned him a move from Bournemouth to Tottenham Hotspur and it will be intriguing to see how Solanke gets on. Remember, this is a player who failed to make the grade at Chelsea and Liverpool, but he has matured considerably since then.
Solanke is playing with better team-mates this season, which could allow him to notch even more goals. On the flip side, leading the line for Tottenham invites more pressure than he was used to at Bournemouth. Solanke is a fine attacker, but only time will tell as to whether he is capable of pushing for the Golden Boot.
Bet on Dominic Solanke as top goalscorer at 33/1 with BetMGM
Cole Palmer — Chelsea (28/1)
Goals last season: 22
Played games: 33
Goals per 90: 0.76
Minutes per goal: 118.5
Total shots: 100
Goal conversion: 0.13
Shot accuracy: 37%
Cole Palmer was the breakout star of the previous Premier League season. When he first joined Chelsea from Manchester City, many thought he would be a fringe player at Stamford Bridge. Instead, Palmer rapidly established himself as Chelsea’s star man. Palmer scored 22 times (including one hat-trick and one four-goal haul), a tally bettered only by Erling Haaland.
Palmer will struggle to match that effort this time around. There is confusion over where exactly he will play and alongside whom, as Chelsea wade through their bloated squad. In addition, Palmer was given more freedom under Mauricio Pochettino last term than he is likely to be given by Enzo Maresca, a more regimented manager. That could harm his numbers.
Bet on Cole Palmer as top scorer at 28/1 with bet365
Bukayo Saka — Arsenal (40/1)
Goals last season: 16
Played games: 35
Goals per 90: 0.49
Minutes per goal: 182.4
Total shots: 102
Goal conversion: 0.1
Shot accuracy: 30.4%
Bukayo Saka is a remarkable football player who is undoubtedly among the best in his position in Europe. The Arsenal icon is guaranteed a place in the starting XI as long as he is fit, and the forward has missed relatively few games since turning professional. Saka is as reliable as they come, so we should not expect his output to drop significantly.
The England international is not an out-and-out centre-forward, though, and there is no guarantee he will even finish as Arsenal’s leading goal-getter. All in all it would take a gargantuan effort from Saka to win the Golden Boot, but a player of his talent and maturity has an outside chance.
Bet on Bukayo Saka as top scorer at 40/1 with talkSPORT BET
Kai Havertz — Arsenal (28/1)
Goals last season: 13
Played games: 37
Goals per 90: 0.44
Minutes per goal: 202.6
Total shots: 68
Goal conversion: 0.18
Shot accuracy: 39.7%
Kai Havertz had a difficult start to his Arsenal career. Many fans questioned why he had been signed from Chelsea, while Mikel Arteta did not seem to know his best position. Havertz spent a large chunk of the campaign in a midfield role, which contributed to his relatively low return of 13 goals.
But the Germany international did not allow his head to drop, which points to his resilience and character. He was later deployed as a central attacker and proved useful in that role. Arsenal have opted against signing a proven striker this summer, which evidences Arteta’s faith in Havertz. With so many quality attackers around him, the former Chelsea man should get plenty of opportunities throughout 2024/25.
Bet on Kai Havertz as top goalscorer at 28/1 with BetUK
Diogo Jota — Liverpool (66/1)
Goals last season: 10
Played games: 21
Goals per 90: 0.79
Minutes per goal: 114.5
Total shots: 41
Goal conversion: 0.24
Shot accuracy: 46.3%
Diogo Jota is one of the best finishers in the Premier League. He did not play as much as he would have wanted last season, in large part due to injury, but the Portugal international still reached 10 goals. He averaged a strike every 114.5 minutes, a record which compares favourably to most others on this list. In short, Jota has shown himself to be effective in and around the box.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker can score different types of goals, but his injury record counts against him. It is also worth bearing in mind that, unlike many other Golden Boot candidates, Jota is not guaranteed a place in the Liverpool team due to the strong competition for places in Arne Slot’s frontline.
Bet on Diogo Jota as top scorer at 66/1 with Ladbrokes
Son Heung-min — Tottenham Hotspur (28/1)
Goals last season: 17
Played games: 35
Goals per 90: 0.52
Minutes per goal: 172.6
Total shots: 83
Goal conversion: 0.18
Shot accuracy: 45.8%
Despite the arrival of Dominic Solanke in north London, Tottenham Hotspur’s long-serving captain remains the leader of his team’s attack. Son Heung-min has won a share of the Golden Boot before, but he is not among the outright favourites this time around. That is in part because of the talent elsewhere in the division, but also due to the fact Son has not reached the 20-goal mark in either of the last two seasons.
With that in mind, it will be difficult for the South Korea international to finish above the likes of Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland. On the plus side, Tottenham are an attack-minded team under Ange Postecoglou and, unlike last year, Son will not leave his club mid-season for international duty. He could be a decent outside bet to finish as the 2024/25 Premier League top scorer.
Bet on Son Heung-min as top goalscorer at 28/1 with Betfred
