Presidents Cup 2024 Golf betting preview

It may not quite have the same glamour as the Ryder Cup, but the biennial Presidents Cup is still a great chance to see some of the world’s best players going at it hammer and tong.

With nine straight victories in the event, the United States have been dominant and, led this time by former US Open winner Jim Furyk, the Stars and Stripes are once again expected to prevail.

But away games haven’t been as easy for the Americans and that means we could be in for a great watch at Royal Montreal in Canada this week.

These are the two sides going into battle.

Internationals – Captain Mike Weir
Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day, Byeong Hun An, Corey Conners, Min Woo Lee, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Taylor Pendrith, Si Woo Kim, Mackenzie Hughes

United States – Captain Jim Furyk
Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Sahith Theegala, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Russell Henley, Keegan Bradley, Brian Harman, Max Homa

The format is very similar to the Ryder Cup but with a few tweaks.

There are 30 points rather than 28 up for grabs overall so 15.5 is the winning number.

And the match is played over four days rather than three:

Thursday: 5 x foursomes

Friday: 5 x fourballs

Saturday: 4 x foursomes + 4 x fourballs

Sunday: 12 x singles

Presidents Cup 2024 Golf betting tips

Will the Americans’ winning streak come to an end in Montreal? Find my predictions and best tips for this year’s President Cup below.

USA to be pushed but are just too strong

On home soil, this could be very one-sided. After all, the Americans have won the last two on their own patch by margins of eight and five.

But away from home we’ve seen a proper contest.

In South Korea in 2015, Jay Haas’s USA side had to dig deep to win by a single point.

And at Royal Melbourne in 2019 with Tiger Woods in charge, the United States had to produce a big comeback in the singles to rally from 10-8 down to win 16-14.

With local Canadian hero and former Masters winner Mike Weir in charge of the Internationals, the atmosphere in Montreal will be fantastic.

It should be close but, overall, the Americans just have too much firepower so back them at 7/2 to win by a margin of 1-3 points.

That means winning USA scores of 15.5-14.5, 16-14 or 16.5-13.5

Bet on the USA to win by a margin of 1-3 points at 7/2 with bet365

Morikawa and Matsuyama to shine

The top points scorer markets offer another way in for punters and backing Collin Morikawa at 7/1 (Boylesport) to rack up most for the USA looks a good play.

Straight hitters have done well on this course previously and Morikawa ranked 2nd in Driving Accuracy on the PGA Tour last season.

As a two-time Major winner, he loves the big occasions and the last time we saw Morikawa he shot the lowest 72-hole score in the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

For the Internationals, Hideki Matsuyama is the highest-ranked player on Weir’s team and should get plenty of opportunities to shine.

A two-time winner on the PGA Tour this season, he’s 13/2 with Betfred to be top International scorer.

Bet on Collin Morikawa to win at 13/2 with Betfred

Finau to seal victory

For a fun bet, try Tony Finau to score the winning point at 16/1 with bet365.

If a fairly close contest plays out, the decisive moment should be delivered by an American in the mid-to-lower order of the Sunday singles line-up.

Finau, who went off sixth in 2022, fits the bill.
