Liverpool head to Paris tonight looking to make it three wins in a row after further extending their large lead at the top of the Premier League table in recent weeks with notable wins over Manchester City and Newcastle.
Second-placed Arsenal’s dropping of points on both occasions now leaves Arne Slot’s side with a 13 point advantage at the top of the Premier League as they seek just a second league title in 35 years.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last five matches ahead of tonight’s game and their huge lead in the league will allow them to put more of a priority on their bid for a seventh Champions League triumph.
The Reds dominated the league phase of the Champions League this season, winning seven of their eight matches to finish first in the 36-team table, and makes them favourites to progress through to the quarter finals.
PSG also have a 13-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 heading after their 4-1 win over Lille on Saturday night, which was also their 10th win in a row in all competitions, leaving them full of confidence ahead of their visit of the Premier League leaders.
Luis Enrique’s side are unbeaten in all competitions since a 1-0 defeat at Bayern Munich in November, 22 matches ago, and have won 19 of their last 20 games, and have lost only one home game in any competition since May.
The French champions were beaten in three of their eight Champions League group matches, finishing 15th in the table which left them having to manoeuvre their way through a knockout phase play-off to reach this Round of 16 phase.
A 3-0 away win over fellow French side Brest was followed by a 7-0 home victory to book their place in tonight’s tie against Liverpool.
The two sides have each other in four matches before, with the home side winning on each occasion, the most recent of which coming in the group stage back in 2018, when Liverpool won 3-2 at Anfield but lost 2-1 in Paris en route to winning the competition for a sixth time.
