PSG vs Atletico Madrid predictions
As soon as the draw for the league phase of the Champions League was made, Paris Saint-Germain knew they would have to do things the hard way.
The French giants have made it their mission to be crowned European champions since the club was bought by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011.
Yet time and time again, PSG have fallen short. Even assembling a star-studded front three of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi was not enough to get them over the line. What is more, they have only ever reached one final – in 2020, when Thomas Tuchel’s team lost to Bayern Munich.
Each member of that aforementioned trio has now departed the Parc des Princes, with PSG consequently seen as outsiders to win the competition.
Their odds of eventual victory lengthened after the aforementioned draw, which handed them perhaps the toughest set of fixtures of any contender.
PSG kicked things off with a 1-0 victory over Girona on matchday one, as an own goal in second-half stoppage time brought them maximum points.
They were then outclassed in a 2-0 away defeat by Arsenal, before a meeting with PSV last time out ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw.
PSG have work to do, then. Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City are three of their next five opponents, so it will be tough for Luis Enrique’s team to finish in the top eight and qualify automatically for the round of 16.
Not that Atletico are faring any better. Like PSG, they needed a late winner on matchday one to see off RB Leipzig.
Since then Diego Simeone’s charges have lost back-to-back matches to Benfica (0-4) and Lille (1-3). They too face a battle to finish in the top eight, although upcoming clashes with the likes of Sparta Prague, Slovan Bratislava and Red Bull Salzburg are eminently winnable.
A win here would represent a much-needed pick-me-up for either team, both of whom would have begun the campaign with the aim of reaching the quarter-finals at a minimum.
Will one of PSG or Atletico be able to add another three points to their respective tally on Wednesday?
PSG vs Atletico Madrid betting tips
Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid will butt heads in the Champions League on Wednesday.
PSG to win
PSG remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 and a run of three consecutive wins has seen them open up a six-point lead at the summit of the standings.
The French title is no longer enough to sate the appetite of PSG supporters, however, so all eyes are on Wednesday’s meeting with Atletico Madrid.
Simeone’s team ran out 2-0 winners against Las Palmas at the weekend, but all in all it has been an unconvincing start to the season for Atletico.
Free Bet Offers
The club from the Spanish capital have won only two of their seven away games across La Liga and the Champions League. Atletico are struggling to get the job done at opposition stadiums.
Home advantage may therefore be the crucial factor in this match. PSG will have plenty of the ball and they should be able to breach an Atletico backline that is not as solid as it once was.

Under 2.5 goals
It looks like Atletico Madrid are going through something of an identity crisis right now.
No longer an underdog in Spain or on the European stage, Atletico splashed plenty of cash in the summer. Simeone, meanwhile, is the highest-paid manager on the planet.
Yet although Atletico have become a more attacking team over the last few seasons, Simeone’s default in games like this is to return to his defence-minded roots.
Atletico will attempt to make life difficult for PSG first and foremost on Wednesday. The hosts will have to show they have the guile to break their opponents down.
Goals will probably be few and far between at the Parc des Princes.

Bradley Barcola to score any time
Bradley Barcola has stepped up to the plate this season.
He had already shown flashes of quality last term, but the France international has taken his performances to another level in 2024/25.
Like many young attackers, Barcola’s end product was not always the most reliable. But he has improved immensely in that area, as evidenced by a return of eight goals in 10 Ligue 1 appearances.
Barcola has yet to score in the Champions League, though, and he will be keen to put that right as quickly as possible.
Making an impact against a club like Atletico Madrid under the floodlights at the Parc des Princes is what Barcola has long dreamed of doing.
