Paris Saint-Germain will be pretty happy with the way they have started the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season.
As domestic football gets ready to resume after the November international break, PSG hold a six-point lead at the summit of the standings in France.
Their first 11 matches of the campaign have yielded nine wins and two draws, leaving PSG as one of only three unbeaten teams in Europe’s top five leagues (the other two are Juventus and Bayern Munich).
Monaco and Marseille have shown signs of promise in the first few months, but we are already seeing indications that neither club will be able to stick with PSG over the course of 34 games.
Whether or not the Ligue 1 title will be enough to satisfy the fan base is another issue. The Champions League is the prize PSG want to win most, but they have had a tricky start in that competition.
Luis Enrique’s men have won only one of their first four outings in Europe. They are 25th in the table at present, outside the play-off positions. Tricky tests against the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City lie ahead, so their participation in the tournament beyond the league phase is under threat.
The draw was tough for PSG and this was always going to be a transition year for the club following Kylian Mbappe’s exit, so perhaps a domestic clean sweep (Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions) would be seen as a success this term.
There are four more rounds of Ligue 1 fixtures remaining before the end of the year and PSG will be targeting maximum points.
Toulouse and Nantes are due to visit the Parc des Princes over the next two weekends. A trip to Auxerre follows, then a home game against Lyon. It is not the most difficult set of games for the champions, with the possible exception of that final match.
Luis Enrique must ensure complacency does not set in, however. PSG have dominated Ligue 1 over the last decade or so, but they have not won the title every year. If the Parisians start to think they are unassailable, they risk opening the door to Monaco, Marseille or Lille.

Paris Saint-Germain are strong favourites to get the better of Toulouse this weekend.

Toulouse finished 13th in 2022/23 and 11th in 2023/24. A third of the way through this season and another mid-table finish looks like the most likely outcome for the club from the south.
Carles Martinez Novell’s charges will arrive in the capital in decent form, having won three games on the bounce before the international break.

Those victories over Montpellier, Stade de Reims and Rennes have moved Toulouse to within just a couple of points of the top six.
However, PSG are on a different level to any of those opponents and they should get the job done without too much difficulty.
Luis Enrique’s side have won eight of 11 first halves, so we expect them to be ahead at both half-time and full-time on Friday night.

Monaco and Lens have both conceded fewer goals than PSG over the first 11 matches, so there is still work to do defensively for the champions.
Toulouse, incidentally, have given up the second-fewest expected goals in Ligue 1, so PSG will have to work hard to breach their backline.
The hosts will dominate possession here and that should help them to restrict Toulouse to a handful of chances.
PSG have won four games to nil in 2024/25, three of which came in front of their own supporters in Paris.
Toulouse are a decent team, but only four sides have scored fewer goals. A clean sheet beckons for PSG.

Ousmane Dembele to score any time
Ousmane Dembele pulled out of the France squad for the international break due to a hamstring injury, but the issue is not thought to be too serious.
In fact, Dembele is likely to be in the starting XI when PSG welcome Toulouse to the Parc des Princes.
The winger is now 27 years of age, but he still has a tendency to frustrate with his end product and decision-making. On his day, though, Dembele is electric and he has been one of PSG’s top performers so far this season.
He only scored three goals in Ligue 1 last term, a pitiful return given PSG’s quality relative to the rest of the division.
Dembele has already made the net bulge five times in 2024/25 and we are backing him to do so again on Friday.
