PSV vs Juventus predictions

An 82nd-minute winner from Samuel Mbangula secured a crucial 2-1 win for Juventus over PSV in the first leg of their Champions League playoff.

The late winner broke PSV’s hearts and deprived the defending Eredivisie champions of a famous draw in Turin.

Weston McKennie opened the scoring for the hosts after 34 minutes. But the American’s goal was cancelled out by a 56th-minute equaliser from Eindhoven’s veteran midfielder Ivan Perisic.

Mbangula then emerged from the bench to score the winning goal, condemning PSV to their second defeat of the season against Juve; the Italians also won the teams’ Matchday 1 clash 3-1 at the Allianz Stadium.

Domestically, it would be fair to say that PSV has been somewhat distracted by the Champions League in recent weeks. The rood-witten has drawn their last three matches in the Eredivisie, with the dropped points allowing Ajax to replace them at the top of the table.

The most recent stalemate came in a 2-2 home draw against Utrecht on Saturday. PSV went 1-0 up after 11 minutes, but they needed a 92nd-minute equaliser from Issac Babadi just to salvage a point.

Two of the three draws came either side of the first leg in Juventus, while the first was sandwiched between the 3-2 Champions League win over Liverpool and the 2-0 win over Feyenoord in the quarter-final of the KNVB Cup.

Juventus warmed up for the second leg with a 1-0 win over title-chasing Inter Milan on Sunday night.

Quite how the Bianconeri kept a clean sheet is another question. Thiago Motta’s team were sliced open numerous times in the opening 20 minutes, but a wasteful Inter were guilty of missing a hat full of gilt-edged chances.

As a result, Juve was able to hang in there and get a foothold of their own in the match. The Old Lady were rewarded when Francisco Conceicao slotted home the winner after 74 minutes.

The win was Juve’s third in succession in Serie A and fourth in all competitions, but PSV head coach Peter Bosz can take heart from the problems Juventus had early on.

PSV vs Juventus betting tips

PSV have already lost twice to Juventus this season. They will hope to end that sequence of results on Wednesday. Juve are the draw specialists – with a stalemate good enough to see them through to the Round of 16.

Juventus to win or draw

The draw is 55/20, while Juventus to win or draw in the double chance market is 4/6.

Juve have drawn 13 of their 25 matches in Serie A and three of their nine in the Champions League.

But more recently, the Old Lady has started winning matches. Juve now has four wins in their last five Serie A matches. The only team to beat them was the league leaders Napoli.

PSV has won only one of their last six in the Eredivisie. There may only be one defeat in that run of results, but Eindhoven boss Peter Bosz knows his team can’t keep dropping points like that and expect to win the title.

Despite this, the Dutch are unbeaten at home all season. We have to consider that. That makes the draw tempting at 55/20. But Juve may nick this, so to be safe, we are going with Juve to win or draw.

Over 3.5 goals

PSV are naturally attack-minded. Juventus have been cautious this season, but in recent weeks they’ve started to play with more confidence and belief.

Eindhoven’s 12 home matches in the Eredivisie have yielded 50 goals (40:10), with a ridiculous average of 4.16 goals per match.

Obviously, their opponents in the Dutch league aren’t going to be of the quality of Juve, but you can see the way PSV play from their statistics.

Juve were cut to pieces at times by Inter on Sunday. Eindhoven coach Peter Bosz will know there are goals to be had against the Italians. But sadly for the Dutch, they are likely to concede as well.

PSV’s nine Champions League matches have produced 31 goals. Over 3.5 goals have been scored in five of them, and in three of the four played at the Philips Stadion.

Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score was under even money. It’s well worth the extra risk to go for four goals or more in this match at 9/5.

Kolo Muani to score anytime

One of the reasons Juve has drawn so many matches this season is because they have lacked an out-and-out goalscorer.

To address this situation, Juventus brought Kolo Muani in from PSG on loan in the January transfer window.

Muani has totally transformed Juventus. He has scored five goals and provided one assist in his four matches in Serie A. His arrival has coincided with Juve’s good form in recent weeks.

The on-loan Frenchman is 21/10 to score anytime and 6/5 to score or assist. As we can see a high-scoring match, we feel Muani will have a better chance of scoring so we are taking the better odds and backing him to score anytime.
