PSV v Arsenal prediction
The Gunners go into the game off the back of their worst goal scoring form this season, with the North London side having failed to score in three of their previous four fixtures following their 0-0 draw to Nottingham Forest at the City ground last week.
Mikel Arteta’s side received direct qualification to the round of 16 thanks to an impressive group stage campaign which saw them win their final four fixtures to finish third behind only Liverpool and Barcelona.
Whereas Peter Bosz’s men had to fight back from a 2-1 first-leg deficit to beat Juventus 4-3 on aggregate in the round of 32 thanks to a goal from centre back Ryan Flamingo in extra time.
The win was PSV’s first in the Champions League knock-out stages since they defeated Tuesday’s opponent Arsenal 1-0 in 2007.
Despite currently sitting second, PSV are without a win in their last four Eredivisie games, their latest being a 3-2 loss away to Go Ahead Eagles despite leading the game with 16 minutes to go.
However, the Dutch side remain unbeaten at home in both the Champions League and the Eredivisie this season, with their only home loss one again at the hands of Go Ahead Eagles in the TOTO KNVB Beker semi-final.
The two sides last met in the competition as early as last season with PSV able to secure a point following a 1-1 draw at home in the group stages, however Arsenal came out comfortable as group winners.
I expect a cagey affair with Arsenal playing more conservatively away from home against a free scoring PSV side and despite their injury issues up top, the speed of Ethan Nwaneri, Raheem Sterling and Leandro Trossard on the break could cause issues to a youthful PSV backline.
Eager to put their recent form behind them I can see a 2-0 win for Arsenal to take home to the Emirates.

Shockingly despite his young age, no fit Arsenal player has scored more goals than 17-year-old midfielder Ethan Nwaneri in all competitions this season, including the winner last time out in his full Champions League debut against Girona.
Only Inter Milan conceded fewer than Arsenal’s three goals in the Champions League group phase and the Gunners also have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season despite their recent struggles.
