RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund predictions

RB Leipzig are four Bundesliga matches without a win. Furthermore, they have won just two in ten since the league resumed in January.

The recent run of poor form has seen Leipzig drop out of the Champions League places. Die Roten Bullen are now sixth in the table on 39 points, three points outside the top four.

Dropping out of the top four has increased the pressure on head coach Marco Rose. There was talk of the former Dortmund boss being replaced during the winter break, but Rose lived to fight another day.

It now looks like that was just a stay of execution, with the man who guided the Red Bulls to DFB-Pokal glory in 2023 set to be shown the door at the end of the season.

Rose’s team warmed up for the visit of Dortmund with a 0-0 draw away at Augsburg on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund are having an even worse season in the Bundesliga than this Saturday’s hosts. BVB are 10th on 35 points from 25 matches.

Despite their domestic problems, things are going well in Europe for last season’s Champions League beaten finalists.

Armed with only a 1-1 home draw from their Champions League first leg, Dortmund went to France and defeated Lille 2-1 on Wednesday to win the tie by three goals to two on aggregate.

BVB even had to come from behind to win on the night.

Jonathan David opened the scoring for LOSC after just five minutes at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. But second-half goals from Emre Can and Maximilian Beier turned the tie on its head and gave the Germans the win.

Dortmund have won two of their last three domestically. They started with back-to-back wins over Union Berlin (6-0) and St. Pauli (2-0). But they suffered a setback on Saturday when they lost 1-0 at home to Augsburg.

There is a caveat that needs to be placed on the Augsburg defeat – it was bang in the middle of the two Champions League fixtures against LOSC.

RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund betting tips

Leipzig and Dortmund have a fierce rivalry based on their diametrically opposed philosophies. That rivalry ratcheted up a notch or two when former Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp took up his new role in the Red Bull organization. Expect fireworks when the two teams meet.

Leipzig to win or draw

Despite their poor form this season, Leipzig have only lost two of their 12 matches at the Red Bull Arena.

Marco Rose’s team haven’t been winning many, but they also don’t lose many. Three of their last four and six of their last eight have ended in stalemates. It’s too many draws that are ruining their season.

Dortmund have only won three from 12 on the road. Combining the form of both teams makes it hard to justify a bet on Dortmund winning in Leipzig.

But as we can’t trust the hosts to beat BVB, we are backing them to win or draw in the double chance market. If you feel 4/9 is too short, then consider backing the draw instead at 5/2.

⚽ Tip – Back Leipzig to win or draw in the double chance market at 4/9 with Star Sports ⚽

Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score

Six of Leipzig’s last seven home matches have had over 2.5 goals. The Red Bulls have scored two or more in five of those matches.

Dortmund have scored eight goals in their last three Bundesliga matches. That includes Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Augsburg, which we can probably dismiss, as the fixture was between the two Champions League matches with LOSC.

Matches between the Red Bulls and BVB are always feisty affairs. The crowd are up for it, and this match is set to be no different. Expect plenty of goalmouth action at both ends, with both teams finding the back of the net.

⚽ Tip – Back over 2.5 goals and yes in both teams to score at 5/6 with SBK ⚽

Benjamin Sesko to score or assist

Leipzig have only scored five goals in their last five matches. It’s not a great return for a Champions League chasing club.

Further highlighting Leipzig’s problems, Benjamin Sesko has been involved in four of the five with two goals and two assists. It’s hard to imagine where the Red Bulls would be without the 21-year-old Slovenian.

Sesko has ten goals and four assists in his 24 Bundesliga matches. His performances have been one of the few bright spots in what is becoming a disappointing season for die Roten Bullen.

Sesko is 37/20 to score anytime. But with as many assists as he has goals in recent matches, it is worth covering both options, especially at odds against.

⚽ Tip – Back Benjamin Sesko to score or assist at 5/4 with Casumo ⚽
