Real Madrid vs Leganes predictions

With the business end of the 2024/25 season just around the corner, La Liga is home to Europe’s most enthralling title race.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have all had spells in first place so far this term. At the time of writing those three clubs are separated by just four points, although Barcelona have the chance to increase that gap on Thursday night.

Hansi Flick’s side face Osasuna in a rearranged fixture that evening. A win would see them pull seven points clear of Atletico Madrid – a decisive margin at this stage, you would fancy – and three in advance of Real Madrid.

Given Barca also hold a head-to-head advantage over both Madrid teams, they would be clear title favourites provided they do not slip up against Osasuna.

Not that Madrid are out of it yet. How could they be when they are currently level on points with Barcelona? Do not forget that there is still one Clasico to come this campaign, with Madrid set to head to the Estadio Olimpic Lluis Companys in May.

Both sides are still in the Champions League too (they are on separate sides of the draw, which offers up the tantalising prospect of the arch-rivals meeting in the final). The title race could at least partly be decided by which team best balances the two competitions.

That Clasico in Catalonian obviously has the potential to be decisive, although more run-of-the-mill games like Madrid’s meeting with Leganes may also determine the outcome.

Indeed, a few unexpected dropped points for either contender could prove to be catastrophic given how close Barcelona and Madrid are in the standings.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team were not at their best immediately prior to the March international break, as they edged out Villarreal in a unconvincing 2-1 win.

It is all about getting the job done at this late stage of the season, but Madrid are likely to come unstuck if they play like they did against Villarreal in their final 10 matches.

“I’m very proud of my players because it was a tricky game because of everything that happened with our rest period and also because of the strength of the opposition,” Ancelotti said last time out. The experienced Italian is now focused on the visit of Leganes.

Real Madrid vs Leganes betting tips

La Liga is back after the March international break – will Real Madrid add another three points to their tally?

Real Madrid to win to nil

Another factor in Barcelona’s favour is their goal difference, which is 16 goals superior to Real Madrid’s.

Barca have outshone Madrid going forward, but the two teams have conceded the same number of goals. If los Blancos are to overtake their rivals at the summit of the standings, their defence will need to stand strong in the weeks ahead.

Madrid have kept 10 clean sheets in 2024/25 and we expect them to move up to 11 on Saturday.

Leganes, who are fighting for their La Liga lives, have scored just 26 goals in their 28 games, the joint-fourth worst record in the division.

Just 11 of those strikes have come away from home. Madrid can shut out the relegation battlers this weekend.

Real Madrid to score in both halves

Ancelotti was furious with La Liga’s scheduling of Real Madrid’s game against Villarreal last time out, coming as it did less than 72 hours after their gruelling Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.

The lack of rest was one of the reasons why Madrid were below par at the Estadio de la Ceramico.

There will not be a great deal of preparation time ahead of this match either, with the international break only officially ending on Tuesday.

Vinicius Junior was in action for Brazil against Argentina in Buenos Aires that night, so he could start this encounter on the bench.

Even so, Madrid have enough attacking firepower to make the net bulge either side of the interval.

Kylian Mbappe to score any time

There were a few teething problems for Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid early on, but the France international is back to his best now.

Mbappe has scored 20 goals in La Liga, just two fewer than Robert Lewandowski at the top of the scoring charts.

He was Madrid’s hero in that slender success against Villarreal, notching a brace to keep his team on track in the title race.

Mbappe is arguably the best player in world football and he is integral to Madrid’s ambitions for the rest of the season.

Leganes will find it immensely difficult to keep him quiet. Mbappe can add another goal to his tally in this one.
