Red Bull Salzburg vs Brest predictions
Matchday two of the Champions League kicks off with two games at 5.45pm on Tuesday, including Red Bull Salzburg’s tussle with Brest.
Salzburg are under pressure to emerge triumphant following a disappointing 3-0 defeat by Sparta Prague.
Facing a team that had not qualified for this tournament since 2005/06, Salzburg were hopeful of picking up all three points on matchday one. Instead, they were well beaten by Sparta and consequently sit joint-31st in the 36-team table heading into this week’s fixtures.
Pep Lijnders, the former Liverpool assistant under Jurgen Klopp who is now in charge of Salzburg, cited a lack of chemistry as a reason for the result.
“A few of our players were playing their first game for the club, or even their first game together in the middle and at the back. It’s a new team and we need to build it,” he said.
This Salzburg squad has had two more weeks together since then and a much-improved performance is required on Tuesday.
Salzburg have dominated the Australian Bundesliga in recent times, winning 10 titles in a row up until last year. Sturm Graz pipped them to the post in 2023/24, taking the title by a two-point margin.
Yet even when they were cleaning up back home, Salzburg struggled to truly make a mark on the Champions League.
They finally got through the qualifying rounds in 2019/20, but they have only reached the round of 16 once since then. Unless they can pick up maximum points on Tuesday, Salzburg will struggle to reach the knockout phase this season too.
Brest beat Sturm Graz 2-1 on matchday one, which means they have a 100 percent winning record in the Champions League. The debutants will head to Salzburg with belief that they can pull off another positive result.
Brest have some tough tests on the horizon, with Bayer Leverkusen, Barcelona and Real Madrid among their remaining opponents in the Champions League.
But given that three victories could be enough to advance to the knockout stage play-offs by finishing between ninth and 24th, another win here would put them in a fantastic position after just two rounds of fixtures.
Even at this early stage of the competition, the stakes are high for play-off aspirants like Salzburg and Brest.

Red Bull Salzburg vs Brest betting tips
Red Bull Salzburg will welcome Brest to the Red Bull Arena on matchday two of the Champions League.
Red Bull Salzburg to win
Red Bull Salzburg had more than 70 percent possession against Sparta Prague last time out, but they did not have enough of a cutting edge in the final third.
Indeed, Salzburg mustered just one shot on target all night and finished the game with an xG of just 0.58, compared to 2.55 for their opponents.
It is hard to envisage Lijnders’ side being quite so bad on Tuesday, not least because they will be aided by home advantage this time.

Brest have a poor record on the road so far this season, having lost each of their three away games in Ligue 1. The latest of those was a 3-0 loss to Auxerre, who had started the day below them in the table.
Salzburg warmed up for this match by beating Austria Vienna 2-0 and we expect them to come out on top again when Brest come to town.
Go for a Red Bull Salzburg win at 9/10 with bet365
Under 2.5 goals
That victory over Austria Vienna ended a two-game run in which Red Bull Salzburg failed to find the back of the net.
It is clear that the squad is still getting to grips with the methods of Lijnders, who replaced interim boss Onur Cinel in the dugout over the summer.
Salzburg may still feel a little vulnerable from that defeat by Sparta Prague earlier in September, and there may be an element of caution in their performance.
As for Brest, they have shown little in their three away games in 2024/25 to suggest they are capable of causing Salzburg’s defence major problems.
This looks set to be a tight and cagey affair at the Red Bull Arena.
Tip under 2.5 goals at 4/6 with bet365
Oscar Gloukh to score any time
Oscar Gloukh was the Red Bull Salzburg hero at the weekend, as his double saw off Austria Vienna.
Only Gustavo Balotelli and Ronivaldo have scored more goals in the Austrian Bundesliga so far this season.
Gloukh is a versatile player who has played in a few different roles already this season, including as part of a midfield three and as one member of an attacking trio.
Gloukh will be full of confidence and we reckon there is a good chance he will make the net bulge again.
