Gout had already impressed in the 100m at the event before his blistering 200m performance on Saturday.
The 16-year-old clocked a time of 20.02 seconds as he ran faster than Bolt had done at the same age.
He also surpassed Peter Norman’s 56-year-old national record on his way to becoming the world’s fastest 16-year-old.
Bolt had previously completed the 200m in 20.13 seconds aged 16 at an under-18 event in Barbados back in 2003.
However, Gout took nine hundredths of a second off that time and he had a message for fans after the race.
Speaking to reporters, he said: “Remember it. I’ve been chasing that record, but I didn’t think it would come this year. I thought it would come maybe next year, the year after that.
“Right now I can’t process it, but I guess tonight when I go to bed, I’ll think about it. These are adults. And me, I’m just a kid, and I’m running them (down). It’s pretty crazy.”
Gout had already become the fourth fastest 100m runner in Australian history earlier in the meet.
He clocked a 10.04 personal best in the 100m on Friday in Brisbane.
His stunning performances on the track have contributed to a meteoric rise for the youngster, who does not turn 17 until December 29.

Gout won silver in the 200m at the World Under-20 Championships in Lima earlier this year.
Meanwhile, he has also been invited to train with Olympic champion Noah Lyles.
The American is keen for Gout to join a training group with his coach in Florida.
Gout’s agent James Templeton told ABC: “We have the opportunity to go to Florida and join the training group of Noah Lyles and [coach] Lance Brauman.
“There’s about 16 or 18 top sprinters there. We’ll be heading over for two or three weeks. That’ll be a great opportunity, a wonderful educational experience.
“I haven’t heard from Noah, but he’s a great guy. I’m sure he’ll be happy to take the younger guy under his wing a little bit.”
