Rennes vs PSG predictions

Rennes and PSG meet on Matchday 25 of the Ligue 1 season with 33 points separating the two teams.

The hosts sit 11th in Ligue 1 on 29 points from 24 matches. It’s either feast of famine for Les Rouge et Noirs with nine wins, two draws and 13 defeats.

After a five-match famine in January, it’s now time for a feast with four wins in their last five matches. Only a 2-0 home loss to Lille on Matchday 22 has interrupted Habib Beye’s excellent run in charge at Roazhon Park.

Beye took charge of the team on January 30th, replacing Jorge Sampaoli who left by mutual consent after a shocking January. Since taking over the team, Beye has picked up 12 points from his five matches in charge.

The run has seen Rennes climb out of the relegation playoff spot and into midtable security. They are now nine points clear of the drop zone and in their best form of the season.

Last Sunday they defeated bottom-of-the-table Montpellier 4-0 on the road. The goals came from Seko Fofana, Djaoui Cisse, Lorenz Assignon and Arnaud Kalimuendo. It was the Red and Blacks second successive away win of the season.

It’s hard to know what sort of frame of mind PSG will approach this match in.

The league leaders battered Liverpool in the Champions League at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday and managed to come away with a 1-0 defeat.

Luis Enrique’s team had 71 percent of the possession and 27 attempts at goal, compared to Liverpool’s two. On another night, the tie would already be over.

PSG now need to get a result at Anfield if they are to avoid another early exit from the Champions League.

The positives PSG can take from their performance is they know they can beat Liverpool. But the nagging doubt is if they can play that well and still lose, then just what on earth do they have to do to win?

PSG can take some comfort from their 13-point lead at the top of Ligue 1. The league leaders need 18 points to guarantee the title, and that’s only if Marseille win their remaining ten matches.

PSG is yet to lose in the league this season. They have won 19 of their 24 matches, drawing the other five. And if that’s not impressive enough, the Parisians are on a five match winning streak in the league and have won nine of their last ten.

Rennes vs PSG betting tips

Despite being in their best form of the season, Rennes still lost 2-0 when they came up against top-quality opposition in LOSC. We expect them to come up short against PSG as well. You can read our match tips below:

PSG to win

Yes, Rennes are in good form. But three of their recent four wins have come against opposition at the bottom of the table.

Their impressive run started with a 1-0 win over Strasbourg on Matchday 20 – the only team from the top half of the table that Rennes has beaten in this run. The following three victories came against St-Etienne, Reims and Montpellier, three of the bottom four teams in Ligue 1.

On the flip side PSG have just won back-to-back league matches against Lyon and Lille, two top-six teams. Paris also scored seven goals in the two matches.

The league leaders should be way too strong for Rennes and have to be backed to win at 4/6.

Over 2.5 goals and BTTS (yes)

Rennes have scored in eight of their last nine matches. Their confidence will be as high as it has been all season ahead of their date with the league leaders.

The hosts will be taking on a PSG team who may well rotate their squad ahead of their Champions League second leg against Liverpool on Tuesday.

Furthermore, PSG has conceded in nine of their last ten Ligue 1 matches. While at the other end, they have scored 66 goals in 24 matches.

Under Luis Enrique it’s entertainment all the way, and that usually means goals at both ends.

⚽ Back Over 2.5 goals and yes in both teams to score at 20/21 with bet365 ⚽

PSG to score over 1.5 goals

Ousmane Dembélé is not just the most in-form player in Ligue 1, he has arguably been the best player in Europe since the turn of the year.

But with a Champions League second leg on the horizon, Dembélé is not certain to play against Rennes.

With uncertainty about who may lead the line for Paris, instead of backing Dembélé to score anytime (a very profitable wager in recent weeks), we are instead looking at a bet on how many goals the team will score.

Paris is 2/1 to score over 2.5 goals. That is very tempting. They have just scored three away at Lyon and four at home to Lille.

But given the defensive improvement in Rennes under Habib Beye (they have kept four clean sheets in their last five), we are playing safe and backing PSG to score two or more.

⚽ Back PSG to score over 1.5 goals at 4/7 with Betfred ⚽
