The 2025 national rally season is upon us.

The chase for the season honours have been set in motion with drivers putting in their entries for the season opener slated for 24-26 January.

Mbarara district maintains the traditional season opening round; this time dubbed Lumala @60 Mum @90 Birthday rally.

The rally is in celebration of former National Rally champion Moses Lumala who is equally honouring his mother. The event is sponsored by legendary driver Moses Lumala.

The event will run from Friday to Saturday. And it will feature only two stages which will be repeated. A special stage will feature on leg one of the rally.

“We want to have a more exciting event which is cost effective for organisers, drivers and the fans by reducing their movements.”

“The sponsors of the event wish to have the feeling of the old rally days. So we want to reflect that in the organisations and the stages,” said Kisitu Mayanja; the clerk of the course.

The rally will cover a total competitive distance of 140.6kilometres with competitors assured of smooth but technical stages.

“A viewing point will be staged at Kanyaryeru where the stages will intercept. The whole action will happen there, and fans need not to move at all,” added the COC.

Seasonal drivers are expected to start the event in Mbarara including reigning champion Jas Mangat, Ronald Sebuguzi, Yasin Nasser, Nasser Mutebi, Jonas Kansiime among others.
