Ronald Otile won the professional category of 2024 seniors golf championship played at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kitante in Kampala.
Otile amassed a total gross of 282 in four solid rounds to emerge victorious with -6, a shot better than second-placed Marvin Kibirige.
The former three-time Uganda national former amateur champion (2014, 2015 and 2018) scored 67, 70, 74 and 71 over the four rounds of golf to partake the lion’s share of the Ug.Shs 20,00,000 total prize fund.
Marvin Kibirige came second with 68, 72, 75 and 68 for 283 (-5) as Phillip Kasozi finished third with 69, 71, 70 and 76 (-2).
Abraham Ainamani and David Kamulindwa completed the top five positions with 290 and 291 gross score marks respectively.
Top ten:
The top ten positions witnessed Davis Kato (292), Grace Kasango (292), Irene Nakalembe (295), Herman Deco Mutebi (296), Tadeo Rodel Gaita (299), Vincent Byamukama (299) and Opio Onito (299).
Other successful pros:
Twenty professionals made the treasured out of the 36 professionals who played.
James Koto, Samuel Kato, Tom Jjingo, Adolf Muhumuza, Becca Mwanja, Gerald Kabuye, Hussein Bagalana and Deo Akope were the others who qualified to have a share of the money.
Akope did not complete the fourth round due to unforeseen circumstances.
This was the first time ever that the professionals are playing at the seniors’ golf championship, organized by the Uganda seniors golfing society.
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has bankrolled this tournament for the 9th time in a row with a sponsorship of Ug.Shs 20,000,000, an increment by Ug.Shs 5,000,000.
The main tournament will swing off on the 7th December and climax on Sunday, 8th December 2024 with lots of trophies and other prizes to the exceling personalities.
