Rugby star Namabiro lauds teammates, coaches for November 2024 accolade | Real Stars Awards

The Fortebet Real Stars awards for the month of November 2024 were held on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024 at Lazo Restaurant in Kololo, Kampala.

The outstanding personalities in rugby, motorsport, football and cricket were rewarded with plaques as well as cash.

In the same vein, there was a special recognition for veteran sports journalist Hassan Badru Zziwa with the lifetime achievement award.

Rugby:

Lydia Namabiro won the Rugby award given the outstanding for Uganda as they clinched bronze at the Africa women’s sevens tournament in Accra city, Ghana.

She also scored 11 tries and was the top scorer of the entire tournament.

Consequently, Uganda qualified to the 2025 Challenger series which kick off in January.

Namabiro has since appreciated the collective effort of her teammates and coaches for the achievement.

“Rugby is a team-sport. I want to appreciate the effort of my all my teammates and coaches for the team-work. This award is my second after winning earlier in March. I look forward more solid and good performances” Namabiro revealed.

Namabiro was considered ahead of Peace Lekuru and winger Grace Auma.

Motorsport:

In motorsport, the rally crew of Jas Mangat and Enock Olinga (Team Piri Piri) won the accolade.

Their plaque was received by seasoned sports journalist Frank Kaheesi Sserugo, also the head of media and public relations commission at Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU).

Mangat and Olinga were appreciated for winning the Hoima Kabalega rally, the last event on the NRC calendar as he won the fourth National Rally Championship ahead of rivals Ronald Ssebuguzi and Dr. Moustapha Mukasa.

Mangat’s titles have come in 2012, 2013, 2016 and now 2024, leveling the record of legendary drivers Charlie “Macarena” Lubega and Sam Ssali who won the same number of titles before their retirement.

Football:

Sports Club Villa forward Charles “Neymar” Lwanga was the best in football.

The center forward was rewarded for his six goals in four matches, including four goals against UPDF and a brace past Wakiso Giants.

These two matches were played at the Muteesa II Wankulukuku stadium, the official home of the Jogoos.

Lwanga beat off stiff competition from Vipers duo of Milton Karisa (captain) and the on-colour Allan Okello.

“I am humbled to win. This is a push factor to continue working hard and I long to maintain the status quo” Lwanga stated.

Cricket:

The gong for Cricket went to Henry Ssenyondo for his exceptional performance for the Uganda Cricket Cranes during the ICC Challenge League played at the lake side Entebbe oval and in Kampala (Lugogo).

Ssenyondo had a combined 11 wickets in the championship as Uganda shone brightest over the opposition.

He beat Cricket Cranes teammates Riazat Ali Shah and Dinesh Nakrani for the accolade.

Lifetime Achievement award:

Seasoned sports journalist Hassan Badru Zziwa, who has served the industry for over two decades was recognized with the lifetime achievement award.

Zziwa has served the sports sub sector with all the due passion, diligence and professionalism right from his hey days at Weekly Topic, Daily Monitor, The Observer, CBS among others.

The Fortebet Real Stars monthly awards have been organized by Real Stars sports agency, fueled by betting firm Fortebet and Jude Colour Solutions.
