SC Villa forward Lwanga among November’s Crème de la Crème | Real Stars Awards 2024

Since January, it has been the norm to reward the outstanding sports personalities in all the given disciplines under the franchise of the Fortebet Real Stars awards.

The crowing ceremony for the November 2024 was held at Lazo Restaurant in Kololo, Kampala.

Outstanding personalities in football, rugby, cricket and motorsport were rewarded with plaques as well as cash.

There was also a lifetime achievement award given to Hassan Badru Zziwa, a veteran sports journalist who has served across various generations with passion, excellence and professionalism.

Football:

Sports Club Villa forward Charles “Neymar” Lwanga was the best in football.

The center forward was rewarded for his six goals in four matches, including a haul against UPDF and a brace past Wakiso Giants.

These two matches were played at the Muteesa II Wankulukuku stadium, the official home of the Jogoos.

Lwanga beat off competition from Vipers duo of Milton Karisa (captain) and the red-hot Allan Okello.

Cricket:

The gong for Cricket went to Henry Ssenyondo for his stellar performance for the Uganda Cricket Cranes during the ICC Challenge League played at the lake side Entebbe oval and in Kampala (Lugogo).

Ssenyondo had a combined 11 wickets in the championship as Uganda shone brightest over the opposition.

He beat skipper Riazat Ali Shah and Dinesh Nakrani for the award.

Lydia Namabiro shows off her accolade

Rugby:

Lydia Namabiro won the Rugby award. Namabiro was outstanding for Uganda as they clinched bronze at the Africa women’s sevens tournament in Accra city, Ghana.

She also scored 11 tries and was the top scorer of the tournament.

Uganda qualified to the 2025 Challenger series which kick off in January.

Namabiro was considered ahead of Peace Lekuru and winger Grace Auma.

“This is my second award after I also won in March 2024. I thank my teammates and coaches. It was hard work to perform” Namabiro remarked.

Jas Mangat

Motorsport:

In motorsport speedster Jas Mangat and his co-driver Enoch Olinga of the famous Piri Piri rally team won the accolade.

Mangat won the Hoima Kabalega rally, the last event on the NRC calender as he finished the season in fourth, ahead of rivals Ronald Ssebuguzi and Dr. Moustapha Mukasa.

Seasoned journalist Frank Sserugo received the award on behalf of Mangat.

Lifetime Achievement award:

Celebrated sports journalist Hassan Badru Zziwa, a key pillar in sports journalism for over two decades was rewarded.

Zziwa was recognized for his outstanding contribution to sports journalism over a lengthy spell.

He has served the sports sub sector with all the diligence and professionalism right from his hey days at Weekly Topic, Daily Monitor, The Observer, CBS among others.

“To recognize someone is very good especially when he or she is still alive. This is yet another accolade after one by president Museveni in Tororo on Labour Day 2013. I also appeal to young journalists to source stories. Avoid lifting stories. Do investigations” Zziwa said in his speech.

For now 11 years, the Fortebet Real Stars monthly awards have been organized by Real Stars sports agency, bankrolled by betting firm Fortebet and Jude Colour Solutions.
