SC Villa woes on the road continue

If there is anything SC Villa has been poor at this season, it is their performance at away grounds.

The Jogoos have swept aside teams at home this season but looked a shadow of themselves on the road.

To be exact, SC Villa have not won a League game away this season.

SC Villa away games

  • Mbale Heroes FC 1-0 SC Villa
  • Vipers SC 2-1 SC Villa
  • Maroons FC 1-1 SC Villa
  • Express FC 1-0 SC Villa
  • NEC FC 2-1 SC Villa
  • KCCA FC 1-1 SC Villa
  • Kitara FC 1-0 SC Villa
  • Wakiso Giants FC 1-1 SC Villa

The run continued on Tuesday as the second round of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season kicked off.

Despite taking the lead midway through the first half through Aslam Ssemakula, SC Villa could only settle for a point against Wakiso Giants FC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

The Purple Sharks rallied back to salvage a point with lanky forward Hudson Mbalire getting the equalizer.

Like it was the case in the first round when Villa lacked efficiency in front of goal, this was on show again today.

The Jogoos started on the front foot and indeed took the lead through Ssemakula who was well stationed to head home in the 23rd minute.

David Owori started a quick throw into Hassan Mubiru who returned the ball and the former delivered a pin-point cross that was headed home by Ssemakula.

Three minutes after restart, goalkeeper James Alitho denied Owori, tipping over his strike from distance.

The hosts were able to level matters at the hour mark with Mbalire tapping home from a rebound.

Timothy Oyamo’s cross was misjudged by Villa goalkeeper Norman Agundifiru and Blancher Mulamba headed the ball on the crossbar but the rebound fell into the path of Mbalire who made no mistake to tap home.

Villa had chances to regain their lead a few minutes later but failed to put the opportunities to good use.

For instance, Andrew Otim failed to round off goalkeeper Alitho when he went through on goal in the 71st minute.

Wakiso Giants eventually held on to pick a point.

The result means SC Villa remain 8th on 21 points while Wakiso Giants FC also remain in the relegation zone in 14th place on 13 points.
