The highly-anticipated WBC lightweight title fight between Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield is a ‘done deal’.

Schofield’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya has confirmed his client has accepted the terms offered to him to face Stevenson for the green and gold strap.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday, the Golden Boy CEO and Chairman wrote: “Kid Austin is officially the most badass prospect fighter today.

“Kid officially accepts to fight Shakur Stevenson let’s go!”

This comes after Schofield tweeted: “We got the contract…done deal.”

Stevenson was initially set to face mandatory contender William Zepeda early next year.

However, Zepeda suffered a hand injury in his ten-round split decision victory over Tevin Farmer in November, which subsequently ruled him out of the clash.

As a result, Golden Boy stablemate Schofield threw his hat in the ring to replace Zepeda and has now signed his fight contract.

The bout is being targeted for February 22 in Saudi Arabia as part of a stacked Riyadh Season card.

An IBF heavyweight title fight between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker is expected to headline the event with Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol‘s rematch for the undisputed light heavyweight titles also set to feature.

Elsewhere on the bill, fast-rising Brit Hamzah Sheeraz is due to finally get a shot at a world title against WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames.

Meanwhile, a WBC interim heavyweight title clash between Zhilei Zhang and Agit Kabayel is also being lined up.

Vergil Ortiz and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis were reportedly being targeted to square off on the card as well – although the contest has since fallen by the wayside.

Stevenson vs Schofield makes an excellent addition to a show that is already shaping up nicely.

Schofield is one of the most exciting young prospects in the sport and boasts an unblemished 18-0 record.

The 22-year-old looks to be a fantastic talent off the eye test.

However, he hasn’t boxed anyone of note on his rise through the ranks.

A fight with Stevenson is a massive jump up in competition.

‘Outlaw’ has held world titles in three different weight classes, and has defeated several former world champions including Jamel Herring and Oscar Valdez.

But Schofield and his team believe it is a risk worth taking.
