Shedeur Sanders is taking a leaf out of Jayden Daniels’ book as he prepares for the NFL.

The University of Colorado quarterback, who is considered to be one of the top players available in April’s draft, has opted not to throw at the 2025 Scouting Combine, which begins on Thursday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Instead, Sanders is expected to throw on campus next month at Colorado’s pro day, continuing a trend that has seen some of the top prospects at each position choose not to work out at the event.

Last year, both Caleb Williams and Daniels, who went first and second overall in the draft respectively, decided not to throw at the combine, choosing to participate in drills at their respective pro days.

Williams struggled in his first season with the Chicago Bears after being the first overall selection – while Daniels led the Washington Commanders to the NFC Championship game and claimed Rookie of the Year honors.

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Sanders will do the same, and has chosen to focus on his interviews with teams in Indianapolis instead, helping them to learn more about him as a person.

“He’ll allow his four years of film to speak loudly, then throw at his pro day with four draftable Colorado University WRs,” Rapoport revealed on Sunday.

“Sanders has impressed teams with his presence, poise and intelligence off the field and that should continue in Indy.”

It is not yet clear if fellow quarterback Cam Ward, projected by many as the number one quarterback prospect, will throw at the combine.

The pair have been training together with quarterbacks coach Darrell Colbert in the Dallas area, and have been seen in various videos jokingly trash-talking each other during workouts.

Sanders himself enters the draft as one of the most intriguing prospects after a stellar college career.

He played his first two seasons at Jackson State before transferring to Colorado, and played his entire college career under his father, NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

In his senior year, he threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in 13 games, before finishing eighth in Heisman Trophy voting.

Sanders also led the nation with a 74% completion rate for the Buffaloes in 2024.

As he prepares to enter the NFL, he faces a new chapter, one without his father’s direct coaching for the first time in years.

It remains unclear exactly where he will land, with the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars possessing the first five picks of the draft.

Ward, who finished his college career with the Miami Hurricanes, as well as Sanders’ Colorado teammate Travis Hunter, and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter are also expected to be in the mix at the top of the board in April.

Hunter, a two-way star for the Buffaloes, was named the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner.

But in an appearance earlier this month on ESPN’s Get Up, ‘Coach Prime’ made the case for his son to be the first overall pick.

“He’s the best one for the job and he’s the most equipped,” Deion said of Shedeur.

“Often times we draft these quarterbacks that have been on these elite teams then they get in these situations not conducive to success and that choke.

“He’s never had the best of, but he’s made the best of.”

The 2025 NFL Draft takes place between April 24 and 26, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
