Sheffield United’s Anel Ahmedhodzic was sent off after grabbing the throat of Coventry City forward Norman Bassette.

After putting in a tackle that sent Ahmedhodzic tumbling, Bassette walked back over to the defender before sending him into an angry frenzy that saw the Championship match descend into chaos.

Bassette, who scored Coventry’s opener, may count himself lucky as he did initiate contact first but was only booked for his role.

Footage shows the Sky Blues star shouting down at the number 15 and touching the back of his throat as he lay on the floor.

Sheffield United were leading the game 2-1 as the scuffle began during the 44th minute.

Tyrese Campbell opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a lovely fox in the box finish, getting on the end of a blazing low cross from Crystal Palace loanee Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

Bassette then levelled the score with his first goal for the club, stretching to bounce home a whipped cross from Josh Eccles.

Provider then turned scorer as Rak-Sakyi, first time, hit a low curling burl away from an outstretched Bradley Collins to ripple his bottom left corner.

It seemed like the Blades would be able to hold on, but Bobby Thomas scored in the 80th minute to make it 2-2.

The defender found himself unmarked as a pinpoint corner was sent in and headed past a rooted Michael Cooper.

When asked about how Ahmedhodzic feels, Wilder responded: “I don’t care. He’s let us down so he gets it.

“I think it was instigated pretty much in terms of the lead up even from the off. Anel shouldn’t get sucked into and he’s fell for the old free card trick. But the boy stood over him and Anel does what he does and you can’t hide away from that.

“The boys been pushed in the face and he’s holding his face so is it his neck or his face? What is it?”

Coventry and interim manager Rhys Carr, with two draws in as many matches, is attempting to balance disarray following the sacking of longest serving EFL boss Mark Robins.

talkSPORT understands former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is in advanced talks to take the reins at the CBS Arena.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who left Man United after the end of his spell as interim manager, has also applied for the job.

Coventry are battling in the bottom half while Chris Wilder’s side continue to aim for promotion, a feat they last achieved in 2023.

They were on a five match winning streak since losing 2-0 to Leeds United mid October but Saturday’s draw has brought a stop to that.

The Blades are second in the table, 10 points off leaders Burnley.

Coventry, meanwhile, sit 17th.
