Shrewsbury v Exeter predictions

Exeter make the trip to Shropshire on Thursday night in very confident mood, having won four of their last five matches in all competitions, drawing the other, before last weekend’s international break, keeping a clean sheet in all five matches.

Gary Caldwell’s side are now knocking on the door of the play-offs having lost just one of their last eight matches and picked up 10 points from their last four games in the league, with the team now sitting seventh in the table, level on points with the top six.

With the Grecians playing two days before any of the teams around them this weekend, they know that a victory will pile the pressure on those in the play-off hunt, and will leave the Devon side sitting in fourth place for at least the best part of 48 hours.

Shrewsbury were one of just four third tier teams in action last weekend during the international break, and picked up a crucial victory against fellow relegation zone-dwellers Crawley, a 5-3 away win ending a run of seven games in which they picked up just two points.

Just goal difference now separates Paul Hurst’s side from climbing out of the relegation zone, though eight points from 11 games remains unsatisfactory, and they’ve also played two more games than some of the teams around them, which will rise to three after Thursday night.

The Shrews have won just one of their eight home matches within 90 minutes this season season in all competitions, though Exeter’s away record of two wins in six leaves much to be desired as well.

Only one team have conceded more goals than Shrewsbury in League One this season, while only one team have conceded fewer than Exeter, leading to a potentially one-sided game to be expected on Thursday night in Shropshire, a 2-0 away win seems a sensible shout.

Shrewsbury v Exeter betting tips

Exeter make the trip to Shropshire on Thursday night having not conceded in their last five matches in any competition and come up against opposition in the relegation zone on Thursday, while the Grecians chase a berth in the play-offs.

The carrot of having a top four spot available to them with a win may well inspire the Devon side and give them something extra to play for, leaving a 2-0 victory looking the most likely as they chase promotion to the second tier for the first time in the club’s history.
