Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a brutal comment about Manchester United’s current squad.
The British billionaire became a minority owner in the Red Devils earlier this year.
He completed his purchase of a 27.7 per cent stake in the club back in February.
Ratcliffe’s Ineos group have since taken control of football operations at Old Trafford.
However, United currently find themselves 13th in the Premier League despite spending £180million in the summer.
Their minority owner has now hinted the squad is not yet good enough to win any trophies.
He was interviewed at the America’s Cup in Barcelona last month, with a reporter asking if he can take anything from Ineos Britannia’s campaign to United.
Ratcliffe explained: “No. I think there’s one little crossover, which is that you can’t win the America’s Cup, unless you arrive at the America’s Cup with a boat that could win the America’s Cup.
“Same in Formula One. I mean you put Max Verstappen in a Williams, he’s not going to win a Formula One championship. And with football it’s the same with the squad in a way. That’s the parallel for me.
“You can’t win anything in football if your squad isn’t good enough to win something.
“The quality of the squad is a bit like the speed of the boat. That’s the only parallel really.”
United made five signings during the summer after their lowest ever Premier League finish last term.

Erik ten Hag also had his contract extended following the club’s FA Cup triumph, but the Dutchman was sacked this week.
He has since been replaced by Sporting boss Ruben Amorim, who will take charge after the international break.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in his role as interim manager for the next three matches, instead, including Sunday’s clash with Chelsea.
The former United striker oversaw a win against Leicester in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
