Amazon managed to snab a chat with one of the stars of the night, PSG captain Marquinhos, but only thanks to their reporter.

The Brazilian speaks Portuguese, French and Spanish, but viewers were able to get his thoughts from Aljoe who live translated to English on the spot.

Speaking via Aljoe, Marquinhos said: “We knew it was going to be a difficult game, these ties are never won in the first leg but we had belief and we came out strong.

“Then they scored those goals in the second half, we kept up our intensity and we believed until they end we would go through but this is the Champions League the games are always going to be difficult.

“We came into this game knowing that we had to play our game, the manager tells us what we have to do, we pressure, we play with a lot of intensity.

“It wasn’t easy at times and Aston Villa made it difficult for us but we’ve done what we needed to do and we’re through to the next round.

“It’s such a difficult competition but we’re getting better and better and proving we’re such a good team.

“We’ve improved throughout the season and it’s going to be such a difficult semi-final whether it’s Arsenal or Real Madrid, but there is belief this team can go all the way and win it.”

Marquinhos nodded throughout at the translation, clearly impressed and approving of what he heard before finishing in English with a ‘Thank you very much!’

He wasn’t the only one impressed either, with viewers responding: “This is so impressive! Brilliant,” while another added: “Alex Aljoe translated interviews may be the best thing on sports TV.”

Further replies included: “Alex makes that look ridiculously easy. Wow,” and “Such excellent skill in translating – genuinely talented stuff.”

Aljoe also speaks Spanish, Italian and French across her roles with Premier League Productions, Sky Sports, Amazon Prime, DAZN and UEFA.

As for Marquinhos, the 30-year-old is playing the best football of his career under Luis Enrique at PSG.

Also captain of Brazil, he’s been with the club since 2013, and has proved one of the greatest signings in their history at £25million from Roma.

He’s also a record-breaker too, with PSG wrapping up Ligue 1 earlier in April, he’s now won the division ten times, more than any other player in the history of French football.
