The 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup continues with two matches at the round of 64 on Tuesday, 14th January 2025.
There are distant trips for two central Uganda based clubs; Soltilo Bright Stars and Gaddafi.
Top tier side Soltilo Bright Stars is in Iganga, Eastern Uganda to face Iganga Young, a side coached by former Uganda Cranes international Nathan Mutenza.
Ian Mutenda’s Soltilo Bright Stars, losing finalists in the 2019 edition to Proline in Masaka commence their campaign against a third tier club, Iganga Young.
Back in the years, the Iganga Ssaza ground used to be an intimidating and tricky venue for all visitors.
Should the form book still remain, it remains to be an uphill task for the UPL side who travel with the belief and determination to progress to the next level.
Skipper and talisman Nelson Senkatuka will lead the surge for goals for Soltilo Bright Stars.
Away in Pader district, Gaddafi, a second division club will take on a regional side (third division) Pajule Lions in another anticipated cracker of sorts.
Gaddafi is under the management of the staff association for Uganda Printing and Publishing Association (UPPC), coached by promotional specialist Allan Kabonge.
Despite suffering their second loss of the season to Lira’s Blacks Power, Gaddafi is ready to recollect their pieces for a decent result and progress to the round of 32.
They are led by some vastly experienced players Savio Kabugo, Duncan Sseninde, Davis Kasirye, Frank Kalanda, Ahmed Amayo, Brian Enzama, Yasin Mugume; Muhammed Ssekeba (goalkeeper) along with a collection of talented youngsters like the team captain Thomas Kakaire, Samuel Kawawa Junior, Denis Lubowa. Jonathan Mbula and others.
Kick off for these two matches is 3:00 PM to give an allowance for a good ending just in case there are any eventualities.
Already progressed to the round of 32:
Current Stanbic Uganda Cup holders Kitara, last year’s losing finalists NEC, Express, BUL, Vipers, NEC and Packwach Young Stars are all through to the round of 32.
