South Africa humiliated Congo 5-0 during group K of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers on Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Jurry Aubaas, Lyle Foster and Rayners Iqraam scored the goals for Bafana Bafana in the one-sided duel.
Mokoena gave the hosts the lead in the 12th minute before doubling the scores three minutes to the half hour mark.
Bathusi made it 3-0 in the 37th minute as South Africa established a comfortable lead by the half time recess.
Foster scored the fourth goal seven minutes into the final stanza and Iqraam wrapped the scoring business with 12 minutes to play.
This is South Africa’s second victory of the campaign that puts them on 7 points, same as Uganda who edged South Sudan 1-0 at Mandela National Stadium.
South Africa is ahead in the pool with a superior goal difference.
Congo will host South Africa on Tuesday, 15th October 2024 on match day four of the qualifiers.
Meanwhile, neighbours Uganda and South Sudan shall face off on the day in Juba city.
