“I met Denis I think 16 years ago when I was from the SuperSport United academy and he welcomed me with open hands into the first team,” Williams told the media at Namboole as his Bafana Bafana side prepared to face Uganda Cranes in a dead rubber Afcon 2025 qualifier.

“He has been there for me and I always watched him from a far when he moved to Mamelodi Sundowns. Watched him do amazing work and even at Afcon 2019, he did amazing things for Uganda,” he added.

After a short stint together at SuperSport, the two are now re-united and Williams who was nominated in the FIFA Awards for the Best Goalkeeper category still sings praises for the ex-Cranes captain.

“And when I joined Sundowns, he welcomed me with open arms. We don’t have competition, we are brothers. He is like a big brother to me. I help him, he helps me and he is a wonderful human being”

“That is why he has achieved so much because he is such a good guy always ready to help, he is a leader, a captain, he is a father and is a big brother to all of us and he is an inspiration to us as goalkeepers.

“He has won the league 11 times and that is amazing and to see him at his age still working hard to play and hope his good attributes can wrap over me.”

Williams missed the reverse fixture at Orlando stadium that ended in a 2-2 draw and is relishing playing at Namboole, a stadium named after great South African, Nelson Mandela.
