Brighton make the trip across the south coast to Southampton to take on the Premier League’s bottom club as strong favourites for victory after recovering well from their 7-0 humiliation by Nottingham Forest by beating Chelsea twice in a week.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side head into the weekend sat 10th in the Premier League table but a win on Saturday against the bottom side will be back to back wins and will take them to within a point of the top seven as they seek a return to European football next season.
The Seagulls have lost just two of their last 11 games in all competitions ahead of their trip to Hampshire, winning five of their last seven, and will be looking to use last week’s win over Chelsea as a catalyst to push up the table in the final third of the campaign.

Southampton’s first season back in the Premier League following promotion via the play-offs last season has been a challenging one to say the least, with the Saints having lost 20 of their 25 league games this season.
Sat with just nine points to their name, Ivan Juric’s side currently sit eight points adrift at the the bottom of the Premier League table and are 10 points from safety, and six defeats in their last seven games doesn’t show much sign of a change of fortunes with only 13 games remaining.
The south coast side did manage to earn a second win of the season at the start of the month against Ipswich to spark a small sign of a fightback, but back to back defeats against Championship side Burnley in the FA Cup and Bournemouth in the league, both at home, suggest a miracle may not be on the cards for the Saints.
Brighton are unbeaten in their last six games against Southampton, and are unbeaten at St Mary’s Stadium since a 3-0 defeat in the Championship 14 years ago, when Rickie Lambert scored a hat trick.
