Spain vs Denmark predictions

Man for man, this Spain team is not as strong as the magnificent generation that won three major trophies between 2008 and 2012.

Yet if we examine each victory on a tournament-by-tournament basis, it is possible to argue that Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph was even more impressive than those at Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 or Euro 2012.

For one, less was expected of Luis de la Fuente’s side ahead of their success in Germany. Perhaps that is an advantage, but it also reflects the fact that Spain were not considered to be in quite the same class as the likes of France and England.

Then just look at who la Roja had to beat on the path to glory. They began in the group of death alongside Italy, Croatia and Albania, yet they made light work of all three opponents and were the only team in the competition to amass maximum points in the first round.

Granted, Georgia were not the toughest possible opponents in the last 16, although Spain had earned the right to get a reasonably kind draw because of their group stage performance.

No one can contend that Spain had it easy from that point onwards. In the last eight they edged out hosts Germany, who were seen by many as the second-best team in the tournament at that point.

France, the most successful European national team over the past decade or so, were dispatched in the semis, before Spain got the better of pre-tournament England in the final. For all their class, the teams of 2008, 2010 and 2012 never had it quite so tough in terms of opposition.

A year before their latest European Championship success, Spain lifted the Nations League trophy. They will be looking to do so again next summer, but there is still work to do before then.

De la Fuente’s men dropped points on matchday one in a surprise 0-0 draw with Serbia. They recovered to beat Switzerland 4-1 a few days later, although it must be noted that the scoreline flattered Spain.

Spain vs Denmark betting tips

Spain and Denmark will battle it out for top spot in their Nations League group this weekend.

Spain to win to nil

Unlike Spain, Denmark have two wins from two in this group and therefore head to Murcia with the pressure off.

Even a point here would be a good outcome for Kasper Hjulmand’s charges, who are targeting a top-two finish and a place in the quarter-finals.

However, with the home fans behind them it is hard to look past Spain in this match. Denmark are a decent team, but they do not have the same quality at their disposal as their upcoming opponents.

Spain kept a clean sheet against Serbia in their first Nations League match, while the goal they conceded against Switzerland came after Robin Le Normand had been sent off.

Spain’s ability to control possession is a defensive tactic as much as an attacking one. The hosts can keep a clean sheet on their way to victory this weekend.

Back Spain to win to nil at 23/20 with Betfred

Spain -1 handicap

Denmark beat both Switzerland and Serbia 2-0 in the September international break, but it is worth noting that those two matches were held at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.

Travelling to Spain to take on the reigning kings of the continent will be a much sterner test of Denmark’s credentials.

While Hjulmand’s side are unlikely to be on the wrong end of a thrashing at the Nueva Condomina, Spain should demonstrate their superiority.

In the end, we anticipate a reasonably comfortable home win for the Spaniards, perhaps by a two-goal margin.

If they were to win 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 etc., your stake on this recommended bet would be returned.

Alvaro Morata to score any time

Despite playing at centre-forward for Spain, Alvaro Morata often feels like a facilitator first and foremost.

That was certainly the case at the Euros, when he only managed to score one goal but helped to bring out the best in Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, Spain’s two wing wizards.

There was talk after the tournament of Morata potentially hanging up his international boots. Those rumours were fuelled further by De la Fuente’s decision to leave him out of the squad for the September games.

But Morata is back in the group now and he is expected to get the nod up top on Saturday ahead of Joselu, who now plies his trade in Qatar.

Despite not always being the most reliable finisher, Morata has scored a respectable 36 goals in 80 caps for Spain. He can make it 37 against Denmark in Murcia.

Tip Alvaro Morata to score any time at 6/5 with Betfred
