Uganda national sprinter Shida Leni who specializes in the 200M and 400M races was part of the over 500 runners who participated in the 2024 Kids of Africa run at Bugiri, Katabi Town Council.
Shida finished the women’s 5KM race first with a time of 20:54:09 ahead of Lydia Atim and Pirio Matia who came second and third respectively.
After the run, she dedicated the special victory to the late long distance female runner Rebecca Chepetegei who was doused in petrol by the husband in Kenya.

“I dedicate this special win to the late Rebecca Cheptegei for her good efforts. I also stand here to condemn the violence against women” Shida told the media after the morning run.
This was Shida’s second 5KM win in a space of a fortnight about the Rotary Cancer run in Arua, West Nile on 25th August 2024.

Other top performers:
Kevin Cheptoek from Kapchorwa won the men’s 21km race, with a time of 1:07:11.4.
Felix Ayiko finished second with a time of 1:11:41.8. The third spot went to Fisher Eric Emcee, who finished in 1:44:20.4.
In the women’s 21km category, Ella was first with a time of 1:07:18.3.
Aisha Namale finished second in 1:23:02.6, while Evas Nansasiira came third with a time of 1:59:58.0.
Daniel Comboni won the men’s 10km race, while Sylvia Chelangat won the women’s event.
The men’s 5km was won by Jaffer Fadhil while the women’s event was won by Shida Leni.

The day’s activities were capped with a music performance by Azawi, who got the crowd dancing and singing to wind down the fatigue from the run.
The theme for the 2024 Kids of Africa was “Running for Sanitation for the Girl Child” with a particular emphasis in the publicity about reusable sanitary pads.
