The SMACK League, renowned as one of Uganda’s best-organized sports leagues, is thrilled to announce the grand finale of its latest episode (season 7), marked by exceptional growth, thrilling changes in format, and unparalleled sportsmanship.
Throughout Season Seven, 22 teams passionately competed in a revamped league structure that brought new excitement and challenges to the competition.
This season saw the addition of two new teams, Phantoms and Vulcans, bringing the total number of teams to 22.
This expansion necessitated a new format: teams were split into two pools, Pool A and Pool B.
Each team played against others in their respective pools, with the top four teams in each group progressing to the Champion’s Shield quarter-finals, followed by semi-finals, and culminating in the finals.
Teams finishing in positions 5 to 8 in each pool competed in the Founder’s Cup, while the remaining teams formed four teams named after the St. Mary’s College Kisubi Houses: Kakooza, Lourdel, Mugwanya, and Kiwanuka.
The season delivered electrifying matches and unforgettable moments.
In the Champion’s Shield, the Knights triumphed over the Tsunamis with a narrow 1-0 victory to secure their spot in the finals, while the Alks decisively beat the Vendors 3-0 to claim their place.
For the Founder’s Cup, the Kiama Warriors edged out the Gladiators 1-0 to advance to the finals, and the Cyclones defeated the Pirates in a nail-biting penalty shootout.
Meanwhile, the interhouse competition will feature Lourdel facing Mugwanya in the finals, adding another layer of excitement to this season’s culmination.
The SMACK League also extended its innovative structure to esports, with the same pool system applied to TSL Esports games.
This season, the Gladiators will face the Phantoms in the TSL Esports Champion’s Shield final, while the Mafiaz will take on the Pirates in the Esports Founder’s Cup final.
The Grand Finale of the SMACK League is scheduled to take place on 2nd February 2025 at Legends Rugby grounds, where champions of the season will be crowned.
The final matchday promises an exciting display of talent, dedication, and sportsmanship as teams vie for the coveted titles.
