Stoke v Hull preview

Friday night’s match at the bet365 stadium will be the Stoke’s first league game since their surprise sacking of Steven Schumacher just five league games into the new season, with the club sat 13th in the table, just three points off the top six.

Stoke have won five of their eight matches in all competitions so far this season, albeit with three of those victories coming in the Carabao Cup.

Victory on Tuesday night in the Cup over Fleetwood currently leaves the side with three wins from their last four games, making it more a surprise that Schumacher was given his marching orders after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat against Oxford.

Rumours are suggesting that Norwich’s current assistant manager Narcis Pelach is likely to become the new boss at Stoke, having apparently run some training sessions with the squad already, though it’s unknown if he will be in the dugout on Friday night.

If Pelach’s appointment as Schumacher’s successor is confirmed by then, his first opponents will be a Hull side bereft of any confidence having not picked up a win in any of their six matches in all competitions so far this season.

The Yorkshire side are another team with a new manager at the helm following Liam Rosenior’s departure at the end of last season after failing to reach the play-offs, with Tim Walter having taken the hot seat at the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers currently find themselves in the relegation zone heading into the weekend with just three points from their five matches, but will overtake their opponents on Friday should they pick up their first victory of the season.

Hull have won only one of their last seven matches against Stoke, a run in which they’ve lost five, but that victory did come in their most recent visit to the bet365 Stadium, when they ran out 3-1 winners almost exactly a year ago to the day.

A cagey affair can be expected between two teams who have only scored five goals between them in their opening five matches of the new Championship campaign.

Sky Bet have boosted the odds of a 1-0 Stoke win to 7/1, which looks the most sensible shout in terms of a scoreline prediction and could be well worth a flutter.
