Ashiraf ‘Fadiga’ Mugume scored a late equalizer against Vipers SC to help KCCA FC maitain their unbeaten start to the season.
In the closely contested encounter played on Saturday at St. Mary’s Stadium, Mugume who came off the bench in the second half scored deep in stoppage time to deny the Venoms maximum points.
The game came with a lot of hype from either side and was a top of table clash with KCCA FC leading the pile while Vipers SC was closely in third.
The game itself saw limited scorimg opportunities with both teams opting for a cautious approach.
The first attempt of the game fell to Saidi Mayanja off Bright Anukani’s corner but his headed effort at the near post went wide.
Two minutes later, defender Rogers Torach blasted a good opportunity wide with the goal at his mercy when KCCA FC failed to clear their lines.
In the eigth minute, Allan Okello fired wide after a well worked counter attack from the Venoms.
At the half hour mark, KCCA had a penalty appeal when Bright Anukani released Usama Arafat and was seemingly brought down by goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu but referee Lucky Kasalirwe waved for play on.
Grant Matsiko had his attempt cleared off the line by KCCA FC defender Hassan Muhamood in the 43rd minute.
In the second minute of added time, Milton Karisa headed home from a well weighted cross from Derrick Ndahiro.
After recess, KCCA FC called for changed in the 58th minute with Saidi Mayanja and Shafik Nana Kwikiriza paving way for Mugume and Etienne Katenga respectively.
In the 69th minute, Vipers goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu pulled off a fine save to deny Sadat Anaku who had gone through on goal.
With the clock ticking down, Vipers made more changes in a bid to slow down the game.
In the second minute of the four added time, Farouk Katongole replaced Karim Watambala but KCCA FC seized the opportunity to level matters.
Katongole had not yet reached the void Watambala left and Joel Sserunjogi’s long ball met Mugume who controlled the ball on the chest before volleying home to send the KCCA FC fans into a frenzy.
The result leaves KCCA FC top of the table on 18 points while Vipers FC move to second place on 17 points.
