The Ayr Gold Cup meeting continues on Friday afternoon, with the second of three cracking days of action from Scotland’s premier racecourse.

Day two brings a six-race offering, with action from 2.03-5.20 set to be headlined by the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes and the Arran Scottish Sprint EBF Fillies’ Stakes.

We have picked out a trio of runners to follow on day two of Ayr’s Gold Cup Festival.

Racing tips

2.03 Ayr – Cushty

3.05 Ayr – Uncle Don

4.15 Ayr – Catherine Chroi

2.03 Ayr – Cushty

A fillies’ nursery over an extended seven-furlongs in which Suzette, Cymbidium and Lovely Spirit are all last-time-out winners. That trio are much respected once more, but preference is for Ruth Carr’s CUSHTY.

The filly has progressed in her three all-weather runs, beaten only a half-length as a 50/1 chance in a Newcastle maiden over 7f at the start of this month, when a step up in trip appeared to work well.

An opening handicap mark of 71 looks more than fair based on that effort and she should have few problems switching to the grass here. In receipt of weight from the field, another step forward will surely make her very competitive.

3.05 Ayr – Uncle Don

There is a double helping of Listed action on day two of this Ayr Gold Cup Festival and it begins with the British EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes over 5f.

Simon & Ed Crisford’s Coto De Caza set the standard following wins at Beverley and Goodwood over this trip in July and is not passed over easily but UNCLE DON is a viable alternative for the always-respected Richard Fahey team at a meeting where he tends to fare well.

The Oasis Dream colt was runner-up over 6f at this venue in June behind a smart all-the-way winner and has since won a Beverley maiden in good style.

He was patiently ridden that day by Oisin Orr and came through to win with plenty to spare, with no less than subsequent Group 3 Molecomb Stakes winner and Group 2-placed Big Mojo no match in second spot.

That’s highly promising form and it is little wonder that Middleham Park Racing are letting him stride out in this grade now.

4.15 Ayr – Catherine Chroi

Iain Jardine is a name to be noted at Ayr and CATHERINE CHROI is one of four possible contenders for his yard in the Ayr Bronze Cup Handicap.

The mare won over course and distance on her first visit to this venue in April and caught the eye again in July in an Ayr Gold Cup Trial Handicap.

She was attempting to come from the rear when meeting trouble and, in the end, finished a never-nearer 2 1⁄4-lengths off the winner.

Mohammed Tabti was on board there and again for a near miss at Hamilton and he once more claims 5lb in the plate today. She is on her last winning mark and can go well given her recent efforts and those two promising C&D runs.
