England smashed a number of records in their first Test victory over Pakistan, managing to beat the hosts by an innings and 47 runs despite the home team making 556 in their first innings.
Now they face the same opponents at the same ground as they look to wrap up a series victory with a minimum of fuss.

Back-to-back wins on the cards
England looked in big trouble in the first Test as Pakistan racked up a score of 556, but they soon put those fears to bed by racing to a remarkable 823/7 declared thanks mainly to huge scores from Joe Root and Harry Brook.
Root passed Alastair Cook as the highest-scoring English batter of all-time in Test cricket as he made 262, while Brook smashed an astonishing 317, the first time since 1990 that an English player had made more than 300.
The draw still looked a distinct possibility but Pakistan’s batting line-up collapsed on what was a forgiving surface, managing a total of just 220 to extend their poor recent run in Test cricket.
The home team have now lost six Tests in a row and look vulnerable once more here.
Pakistan have little in the way of spin bowling and their pace bowlers got very little out of the pitch in the first game.
Ben Stokes could be set to return for this game and so expect England to try and force the issue to avoid a draw, a tactic they have employed often under Stokes’ leadership.
The visitors are fancied to win this once more and secure the series victory.
Brook to stand out again
By the end of it commentators were running out of superlatives for Brook’s batting performance in the first Test, as he became the first English batter in his lifetime to make a score of more than 300.
That was no flash in the pan however, he broke out with three centuries in three games when England last toured Pakistan in 2022 and his average in the country now stands at over 100.
The Yorkshireman clearly relishes these conditions and is fancied to top score for the visitors once more.
Leach can continue to impress
Another player who was suited to the conditions in the first Test was England’s left-arm spinner Jack Leach.
The Somerset ace took seven wickets across the two innings and can be his team’s top wicket-taker once more here.
With question marks about who will be in the visitors’ pace attack and the less experienced Shoaib Bashir not quite performing as well as Leach, the left-armer is fancied to continue his strong performances.
